View Full Version : PC shops in Sheffield and surrounding areas?
My friend`s son is interested in a new Hewlett Packard lap top for Christmas.
Apart from Currys, (and PC world who often offer an unacceptable level of service according to a good few members on here, and also by my own experience), are there any other pc dealers in Sheffield worthy of a visit for this brand of pc?
Thanks
steveb2007 13-12-2007, 11:17 Complex at Handsworth are pretty good for pc's & laptops, but i'm not sure if they stock HP one's.You could ring them on 01142561010 and ask.

All the PCW haters on here need to shut up, they've never done me wrong, ever.

Come on Rich.
Everyone knows they are a joke. And not a funny one either.
alchresearch 13-12-2007, 12:55 You can buy direct from HP.
Cookie1410 13-12-2007, 13:39 Its ok not wanting to go and buy from PCW however what you have to realise is if you want value for money then you dont have a great deal of choice.

I must say that I have always had trouble free products from the likes of Currys, Pc World etc perhaps I have been lucky I don't know.
I'm not sure if this is still the case but about 2 or 3 years ago I bought an IBM thinkpad online with insight (as they were by far the cheapest for the model I wanted). They are an international online retailer, however they have (had?) a warehouse in Sheffield where they sent all their laptops from.
I rang up and asked them if I could order the laptop on the phone and go and pick it up from the warehouse. They agreed and made a deduction from the sale price as there was no postage and packing involved. An hour or two later (after the funds had cleared on my card) I went and picked it up directly from the warehouse.
I've no idea if the warehouse is still in Sheffield or if they still allow you to pick up items rather than wait for them to be delivered but I'd recommend them if they still allow you to do this. I had no problems at all with the sale process or the laptop itself and they do sell HP laptops, here:

Ring em up and ask if the price seems about right.

Not sure if you can buy individually but I used to source all my HP stuff from SCCeX.
Link here. (http://www.sccex.com/)
jinnertomcat 13-12-2007, 13:57 I know its not HP but I bought a PC online from Dell last year and the transaction was smooth and support was very good too.
Greybeard 13-12-2007, 14:07 You generally get a better choice/selection from on-line suppliers such as Ebuyer...
http://www.ebuyer.com/search/?strSearch=&bolShowAll=true&intStoreID=5&intCatID=10&intMfrID=3&bolShowAll=true
24 HP models to select from.
And generally useful user product reviews for most items.
Cookie1410 13-12-2007, 14:14 The best solution to this is to go into PCW and buy one from the store where you can get good advise on whats best for you, if you buy off a web site then if anything goes wrong then you have not got anywhere to go, this is one of the reasons why such as ebuyer and various others advertise cheap, you will get a good price from PCW and if anything goes wrong you have got a fallback.

Not really, if you go into PCW and are not competent in computers they will tell you anything and everything to get you to buy anything so they can sell you an extended warranty. They really don't care about selling computers, they sell extended warranties (the computers they sell just open up an avenue for them to sell you an extended warranty).

You have exactly the same consumer rights regardless of whether you buy from PCW or from a reputable UK based online retailer, in fact you have even more rights if you buy it online than you would if you went into a shop due to the fact you can't inspect the goods before you buy them.
SCS on Taplin Road, Hillsborough are pretty good for computers. Their number is 0114 281 9333

Insight do still have a warehouse in Sheffield and sometimes it is possible to collect from there. If collection is not possible standard delivery for in-stock items is usually next business day.

Utter rubbish. They will tell you that you need to buy whatever they want to sell you.

Now you're talking out of your trousers mate!
They will sell you whatever is teh current best selling kit.
pooley91 13-12-2007, 15:39 Even though the "current best selling kit" might not actually be what you need !

I totally agree, Im banned from every PCW shop in sheffield because I 'upset the staff'
i'd go in, asking questions that the staff were unable to answer, and i'd cause a fuss about the answers how one person told me one thing and another told me another, and another store told me something totally different, obviously all the answers were totally wrong, and the reccomended PC's for what I wanted to do would have been totally inadiquite (If I really was buying)
