Favourite sandwich filling? Mine's got to be seared Salmon with lime and pepper mayonnaise on granary bread. To die for.

What's yours?

I don't have just one..

Grated Cheddar and Salad Cream (with a hint of onion for that extra fresh breath)

Tuna (either with Mayo or loads of vinegar)

:D

Sausage and HP brown sauce.

I'm definately with Nick there. You can't beat a [quality] Sausage sandwich, and the sauce has to be HP every time. Combine it with a mug of Yorkshire Gold tea, and you have perfection.

For me it's a choice from:

Smoked salmon with cream cheese and black pepper; bacon, paté and onion marmalade on an olive ciabatta (courtesy of relish on West Street - a truly great sarnie shop); or the good old sausage/bacon/fried egg "heartbuster".

Ohhhh, anything with really nice brie - especially if it's hot and slightly melting...mmmm. But it has to be nice bread - My favourite at the moment is linseed and soya bread, it's so good. Nothing sliced and white!

Think from now on will stick to nice threads like this where I can't offend anyone. I hope! :help:

Its called a New York Deli and its pastrami and red cheese and dill pickle (bread and butter pickle over there) and mayonaise, Boots do one but its not as good as fresh made.

I like roast vegetable and homous... there's a sandwich shop near me (actually there are loads so that is a completely unhelpful statement :P ) that sell veggie and homous sandwiches, and they are truly lovely :)

Strawberry jam and boiled egg. I have eaten it since a child. It is truly the second best tasting foodstuff after Hendersons relish itself.
The taste is incredible, it fuses to some higher plane, and tastes nothing like egg or jam.

Does it work with raspberry jam or does it have to be strawberry? (will have to get strawberry tmw just to try this out - the idea of being taken to another plane with a boiled egg & some jam is v beguiling )

I think it will work just fine with the raspberry jam.
You have to put the jam thinly on the top slice and balance the cut up hard boiled egg on the bottom slice.
My mum used to stick the egg together with salad cream for me. I of course have continued that particular tradition.
I find the best way to prepare the egg is to beat it with a fork in a small bowl with a little salad cream.

ooh various depending on hunger levels / mood.

either:

bacon & egg;
brie & mango;
or
hot chicken & stuffing.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

quite fancy one now...

....same here, it depends on my mood.

Corned beef and piccalilli, tuna and mayo, proper ham off the bone with mustard.

Hot: BEST, Sausage and tom, sausage and fried onion.
Soft boiled egg smashed up betwen two slices of bread with brown sauce, yummy.

And you can't beat a good steak sandwich with caramalised fried onions and english mustard on crusty french bread - yes that really does it for me.

The king of hot sarnies.

By the way, I am just going to have to try that hard boiled egg and jam idea.

Well have to admit the egg, salad cream & jam combo works - in a kind of surprising way Muddy u are right

brie & mango; may have to try this tmw - pear & stilton works for me so I suspect this would also be good.

May have to try a few more combinations that I can add salad cream & jam to too though :heyhey:

Thanks for believing Me Siān...
It's an amazing combination that's much more than a sum of it's parts, I think that there's some old fashioned magic afoot in that recipe.
I'll keep up with your suggestions and try them myself if you find some crackers. . .

it is best on a white baguette. I first had it from that 'sandwich sandwich' stop on chapel walk. it's really really good! mango chutney works pretty well, as does fresh mango.

Indeed it is JonJParr - Crammed full of piggy goodness, melty butter and Gods own condiment......... Brown Sauce!

Only problem is when you're doing one for yourself and "plus one" you end up munching an entire pack of bacon. Ah well, never mind.

I used to love Chicken Salad sandwiches from Safeway...but then I became vegetarian!

One hates to wander off at a tangent, but did you know that the BLT sandwich was invented by former Radio One DJ Dave Lee Travis, and was intended to be called the DLT?

Travis’s original plan was to invent sandwiches consisting only of ingredients named after his initials; the BLT was originally a Duck, Lettuce and Tomato sandwich until taste tests showed most people preferred Bacon to Duck.
His follow up sandwich was a seafood special, consisting of Dill, Lobster and Trout, but the high cost of lobster prevented this sandwich from reaching the marketplace, as shops would have to charge £6.73 per sandwich just to make a profit.
DLT's last action in the sandwich world was a vegan-friendly combination - Dock Leaves and Thyme; sadly this proved a failure as the sandwich didn't actually taste of anything, leading to inevitably poor sales.

Despite a recent rumour that DLT is currently working on a Dog Leg and Tortoise sandwich for the Thai market, he is believed to be back working as a DJ and part-time enemy of Noel Edmonds.

I had a fried corned beef sarny on sour dough bread with gerkin pickle spears and frenchies mustard all washed down with a pint of Sam Adams Oktoberfest.

It's making my mouth water even now!

Me fave right now has to be an M&S smoked salmon and cream cheese one. Used to love the Safeway ham and cheese baguettes but now Safeway is no more and they aren't the same if you make them yourself :(

Beef makes a cracking buttie, with loads of mayo and salad and it has to be on good bread, and don't skimp on the meat. There was a sarnie place on Ecclesall Rd opposite Champs that made the BEST beef buttie ever, but it's also closed down :(
