Draggletail 12-12-2007, 15:04 Surprised nobody posted it, doesn't come up in a forum search...
Firefox 3 beta1

Be advised it might not support your existing FF themes/add ons yet, of course - doesn't support FasterFox either.
*Waits for someone to post link to FF 3 beta 1 posted ages ago*

sallonoroff 12-12-2007, 15:08 I'll wait for everyone else to iron the bugs out first... i use FF too much to have it start crashing on me! :)

Hum, you may well be right....
The much anticipated Firefox 3 beta 1 will be available tonight or tomorrow, Mozilla developers said.
“Beta one [has] Q & A sign-off and will be ready to ship tonight or tomorrow, ” one developer said during a Mozilla developers meeting on Monday. Beta 1 will be available in more than 20 localizations, developers also said.
Beta 1 is the “most thoroughly tested” software from Mozilla Q&A team in the last few years.
Developers said several industry reports claiming that Firefox 3 will ship with more than 70 percent of bugs are misguided. There are 700 bugs remaining but Mozilla has resolved 11,800 bugs, including the most important ones. “This personally upsets me,” one developer said, claiming that news sites haven’t done their homework before making sensational claims.
The beta was first expected to be available this summer, and then September, but has been delayed to resolve technical issues.
The target date for Beta 2 code freeze is now December 7, developers also said during the telephone meeting.
The big push for launch of Firefox 3 is underway. The Royal Order of Experience Design, a creative agency in Chicago, has been hired to handle the rollout.

Draggletail 12-12-2007, 15:24 Hang on, bugs are an unknown quantity - how can you estimate a percentage of an unknown quantity? :suspect:
Edit: Is it that they may have released it having fixed only 30% of the known bugs? it is isn't it?
I'm fed up od this - off to make a brew
sallonoroff 12-12-2007, 15:25 No, they're talking about bugs they know about.
There, of course, will be others...

GrinderBloke 12-12-2007, 16:57 I installed and tried Firefox 3b1 but uninstalled it as it still felt like it had a way to go, unlike earlier Firefox betas which have seemed almost ready to go release.
I am a Firefox 2 / Safari 3b user on Windows.

Yeah, i've been using firefox since it was called Phoenix and never had any problems with the betas until we got to v2... i guess each single additional feature brings multiple additional problems.

Preacher Man 14-12-2007, 12:01 imo ie is fat better than firefox, you are all just losers who probably own ps3's :rant:
Any idea if the memory leak I have been expiriencing in 2.0.0.11 has been fixed?
It has been enough that I stopped using Firefox as default browser a couple of weeks back but hope to be able to come back to the fold
sallonoroff 14-12-2007, 12:14 I have FF open at least 8 hours a day and haven't noticed any slow-downs... but then, i never have experienced the "memory leak" problem.
.
Tends to manifest itself when I leave browser open over night with more than half a dozen tabs open.
Wether I have firebug and other extensions running doesn't seem to matter.
By the morning it'll be using something like 300-400Mb!
sallonoroff 14-12-2007, 12:24 haha... no, the leak isn't fixed in 2.0.11! Out of curiousity i've just looked at how much memory firefox is using, and it's at 85MB! (and rising by about 4k every couple of seconds!) I've had it open for about 5 hours and it currently only has 2 tabs open.
Odd that i've never noticed a performance problem if it has always been doing this....
.
Leave it open overnight/weekend see where it gets to by Monday ;)

:D I daren't...
TBH, i don't really ever find the need to have my browser on constantly... it's not like it takes forever to launch. And with FF you can have it open numerous tabs in one go with a single click.

I get that during the course of a normal working day sometimes. Firefox is open when I get in around 9 and shut around 5. Tho it can get to >300Mb by earlier than that and I have to shut it down and restart.......I'm also running Eclipse and other memory heavy things :)
At this moment in time, Firefox is up to 262Mb with 3 tabs having been open since midday yesterday. That is top of the memory usage heap.
Then Opea @260Mb (it crashed half hour ago too so had a restart!)
Some Javaw.exe process next @ 224Mb (probably linked to next entry...)
All the rest are < 55Mb, the Eclipse entry is way down the list @ 2.5Mb.
EDIT:
When did browsers become so memory hungry?!
sallonoroff 14-12-2007, 13:44 When did browsers become so memory hungry?!
When the web got bloated... sorry, "media-rich"...?
