View Full Version : Moving To Sheffield From The South
Hi,
im new to this forum & will soon be new to the area.
My wife is originally from sheffield, but im from the south east & have never been up north before.
I was born & grew up in london, but then moved to sussex.
Im living in eastbourne, east sussex at the mo, but me & my wife are looking for a house in sheffield.
We've spotted a nice house, we're just hoping we can get it!
I've got ideas for work when i get there & i hope i like it in sheffield
metalman 07-02-2005, 11:21 I hope you like it too, because with the house price divide, you'll probably never be able to afford to move back again.
sacredearth 07-02-2005, 11:34 I'm a Londoner living in Sheffield. Not only couldn't I afford to move back to London, I wouldn't want to either.

Lindseyw 07-02-2005, 21:47 Easy Tiger .........:)
what? i only answered the question!
Lindseyw 07-02-2005, 21:52 you need to get the property guide or look on www.rightmove.co.uk
Proprty guide? which has mainly AGENTS in it PLUS i dont live in sheffield, i dont even live in the north!
Lindseyw 07-02-2005, 21:57 Hmm ok then - Sheffield Star has a lot of private landlords in it.
So, you could look on www.fish4.co.uk

Lindseyw 07-02-2005, 21:59 Sheffield Star is the local paper up here. All adverts in there are on fish.
Hi Daz25
I'm a private landlord. I don't know if I'll have any properties vacant when you need one but if you let me know your requirements and when, I'll keep you posted.
Regards
Hi,
what have you got available at the mo?
or in about 1 or 2 months etc

It's all a bit vague at the moment.
One contract on a flat finishes mid June, another in August and
a contract on a house finishes end June. however the only definite one is the August one as the other tenants may want to stay on - they will let me know nearer the time.
Another house has tenants on a month by month basis so they could go next month or not for ages.
All I can suggest is that you let me know when you have a more definite date and I'll contact you if circumstances change
Cheers.
thats just it, we have no definate date as no-one knows when houses become available, but we're looking at roughly 2 or 3 months time.
What we're basically looking for is a min 2 bed room house, with garden. A budget of £500. Must allow smokers & pets.
Not in the areas of pitsmoor, tinsley, shire green, wybourn, nether edge, darnall
Sorry, can't help you then. Our places are newish with fairly new furnishings - we don't allow smokers or pets.
Good luck
WallBuilder 08-02-2005, 16:59 Hi daz25,
It might be worth your while considering coming up to Sheffield for a long weekend and then blitzing the place, I wouldn't ignore the agencies after all they are usually properties owned by private individuals who just don't want the hassle of dealing with all the maintenance, paperwork and rreferences.
Your price limit will give you a lot of properties but the smoking and pet thing is going to be difficult unfortunately as plenty of private tenants looking for accomadation have discovered.
Hi,
you may be right about the long weekend, however i REFUSE to go with an agency as they charge stpuid fees!
Why should i pay them a NON-RETURNABLE fee for them to do credit checks etc when i might not pass the checks? Then id just be throwing that money away!
I've recently been in touch with a private landlord though who may have a nice 3 bed house available in approx 4/5 weeks

There nothing wrong with Tinsley, I can assure you. I'd say if you dont get in tinsley in the next 12 months you'll never be able to get in.
