View Full Version : Ronian Video - Car Smash, Fir Vale
Got home after work today and heard on the calendar news that a land rover had ploughed into Ronian Video store in Fir Vale. The vehicle had gone straight into the front window and demolished part of the wall.
I heard from a friend that an elderly lady had also been injured in the incident - Im hoping she is not badly injured and gets well soon.
Someone also told me that the trotters ( in their wisdom ) blocked off the crossroads and were sending traffic down Skinnerthorpe Road. . . . which has had a dead end now for years!!! cars were forced to turn back up and it was chaos all round.

I do apologise, what I meant was 'the pigs' . . how could I refer to them as their feet!! sorry.
I hope Ron, Ian and Wendy are alright?.
I grew up in Wades (RonIan) video when they had their original shop on City Rd.
They'd closed the entire junction off. People were cutting through the Hospital to get round it.
lp100purple 07-02-2005, 08:54 I think Ron, Ian and Wendy sold up about a year ago, but I'm not 100% sure!!

Thanks rinty.
That probably explains why Idsworth Road (which leads from the Page Hall junction up to Barnsley Road and the Hospital) was gridlocked yesterday between 12pm and 4 pm.
I've never seen it that bad on a Sunday afternon, even when regulars at the WMC have taken all available parking spaces on both sides of the road.

Hi
I was a witness to the accident. It was an absolutely horrible thing to see. I can't help thinking about the poor woman who was hit by the 4 x4. Does anyone know if she survived?

Did the 4 * 4 drive into the shop deliberately or was it an accident? Have you been in touch with the police?
Yes I gave my details to the police. The car was travelling was going at some speed - I'd say nearer 40 than 30mph and showed no signs of breaking before the impact. It was one of those massive American military type vehicles. I was sitting at the lights on Herries Road so had a fairly clear view.
There were at least 3 groups of people in various cars who gave details to the police - definitely enough witnesses. Loads of people at the scene really quickly helping. One guy was amazing - he stood and directed 5 lanes of traffic around the crash site.

Obviously a Firvalian there
I'm hoping that the elderly lady is ok, if anyone has any news about her, please post and let us know if she is ok.

Much better - how would you like it if I shouted "OI FOOT" when I was yelling at you huh ? huh ?
The area was sealed off because the vehicle involved fractured the gas main
The old lady survived, but she is in a serious condition
