I'm sure I heard somewhere that there was a Mill in Leeds or at least West Yorkshire that I could buy yarn. I went to Leeds last week and would have liked to pay a visit, but couldn't think where it was. Was I dreaming about this Mill or does it really exist:huh: Other than that, can anyone recommend wool/yarn shops outside of Sheffield, just in case I have a trip out? Thanks:D

Texere Mills is in Bradford - fairly close to town/city centre, and near Forster Square railway station I think.
I've been once - and it was worth a look... they've got a bit of "posh" knitting wool, lots of books, and other craft type bits and bobs, and then loads of their wool - of loads of different types - chunky, DK, 4 ply, plus stuff for making carpets etc etc...

I'm fairly sure they've got a website maybe www.texere.co.uk ???

If you're going to Yeadon (outer Leeds), Keighley, Preston, Blackpool, Hunstanton, Norwich, Sleaford, Lincoln, Boston or Grantham let me know and I'll tell you the 'local' yarn shops I know of!! :D

Also, Bala, Caenarfon, Bangor and Rhyll - but if you're in North Wales then definitely go to Aber Khan! It's fantastic and you can buy loads of fabric and stuff too + they have a separate building full of bargain/sale yarn & fabric and an on-site cafe with cheap but lovely meals! Take lots of money and allow lots of time! ;)

Of all the LYS's, the Wool Baa is definitely my favourite of course! :hihi:

The shop in Keighley didn't really do posh yarns but does have great bargains - I liked that a lot! :D

There's also Coldspring Mill, out towards Keighley way (directions are on their website) There's a camping shop upstairs and a coffee shop, downstairs is a mill end shop. You never know what will be there, it could be stocked to the roof with cashmerino aran at 2p a gram or there could be a fat load of nowt.

I'm working in Preston tomorrow, and if there's a yarn shop I could visit while I'm there, that would make the day more bearable!! Do you have the details of the one in or near Preston?

If any of you are ever out Staffordshire way there is always www.threshingbarn.com a lovely place run by a lovely lady. I always spend much longer in there than I intend to.

Linda's Craft Centre, 10 Woodplumpton Rd, Lane Ends, Preston PR2 2LP. Tel: 01772 723025. Do you know Preston at all? It's just off Blacpool Rd which is a big main Rd through Preston. If you're working in the centre it's only about 5-10 min in the car to the shop and you could go straight out of the centre on Plungington Rd then left down Blackpool Rd.

(I don't jave full addresses for all the shops I mentioned by the way - if only was that organised  - but there's an address sticker on the front of a crochet book I bought from there! :P)

I've been to Heaths County Store (http://www.deespatchworkbarn.co.uk/) quite a few times. Its very nice, only takes about 20 mins to get to but I'm closer to it I think than going to Sheffield.

I found this place... I thought it would be rude not to go look when I'd asked for details!!
I managed to spend a bit of cash in there - but it wasn't a patch on the Wool Baa!!!! Worryingly it seemed to be full of old ladies and fancy "eyelash"- type wool!!

No, it definitely isn't a patch on the Wool Baa - I guess shops have to cater for their customers though and surely the best customers are near enough to make it to Wool Baa! :hihi:

Wheezy - I think you should be nice about the Wool Baa since I have it good authority you are hoping Father Christmas might bring you a few things from there! :P:D

I went here today! Bought 200g of foot covering yarn. Well worth a visit if you are in the area, but wouldn't make a special trip out unless they had bargains to offer. Nice friendly people too. :)
