I have a Winfast PVR TV card but the signal here for the aerial is rubbish so asked Telewest about a 2nd box but its 25 + 15 month.
I've got no idea about 'free to air' boxes but whats the cheapest and most basic situation with getting some watchable live TV coming into the PC? Anyone got any equipment to flog....?

You can get some decent Freeview boxes for about £50 in Dixons (probably cheaper if you trawl t'internet), but the problem you're gonna have is that if the signal for normal analogue telly is poor with your aerial, then chances are it will be just as bad, or worse with digital.
The rule of thumb to use is that if you get a decent analogue (i.e. not Freeview, Sky or cable) Channel Five with your aerial then you should get a halfway decent digital signal. There is a postcode checker on the net that tells you if you can get the digital signal - on this link (http://www.freeview.co.uk/)
Other than that you may end up shelling out for a new aerial to go on your roof.

Cheers for the info. I checked the site and i need a 'wideband aerial' for freeview - the guy in the aerial shop said not worth an aerial (doing himself out of a sale) but not sure if his was wideband (£110 fitted desn't sound bad but a bit of a risk).
Anyway, most of the added freeview channels are unnecessary and poor (IMO). I was a bit naive thinking i could get telly just like that with the card but at least I can use it for watching old vids....
EDIT: (added)
Incidentally, this room is wired up for cable, could i just get an 2nd hand telewest box and plug it in with limited use?
