View Full Version : The Pope, should he be allowed to die peacefully
Having just listened to the Pope. I wonder is it inhuman to expect this man who has led the Catholic's for so many years to keep being wheeled out to further prolong his agony when it is so obvious that he is in no way capable of doing his duties.
Should he be allowed to Die in peace and privacy?
i'm sure he'd wish nothing better for himself right now, but i suppose he's too dedicated, anyhow who could tell him to step down ? as he's the BIG BOSS.
Kristian 06-02-2005, 12:46 I think it's for him to decide. As poppins said, he is the big boss, so who could make him stay on?

You may be right poppins, and in theory he is the Boss, but in practice it so painful to see the hollow shell of a once great man being abused in this way.

I'd hate to think of him being abused !, to me he looks quite content doing what he's doing, then again his eyes are always closed so he could be in constant pain, just have to wait for the smoke now !

I just wish there was someone amongst the Cardinals who was strong enough to put a stop to the public humiliation of what is a skeleton of a once great man, but it seems not.
BTW I am not a Catholic,I just hate to see an old man suffering, I wont be long..lol

I'm an English Catholic, i understand we'r a dying breed !
What does BTW mean ? I see that a lot.
I think if they sacked him he would have a good case under the age discrimination act.
If only all religion could die with him the world would be a far better place. Oh dear, don't get me started!

Means "by the way"...
Ned Ludd 08-02-2005, 15:14 I am absolutely certain that this stubborn old man is carrying on because that's exactly what he wants to do and in doing so is following God's wishes. I'm sure no one is pushing him at all.
Mother Tersesa was of the view that suffering in pain was in someway noble (she was against powerful pain relief for the terminally ill) and I wonder if this rather "conservative" view is shared by some of those that would have her made a saint.
He 'll take to his bed when he has absolutely no choice.
The general public underestimate the capacities of elderly people. Although the Pope may no longer possess his former public-speaking ability, and commanding presence, I am sure that he can still live a good and useful life. Old people, like His Holiness, often possess skills that would astound we of younger generations; darning socks, mending kettles, knitting jumpers etc spring to mind. Perhaps, in the twilight of his years, he should give us a sight of them?
According to todays news he is making a recovery!!!
JonJParr 10-02-2005, 13:01 For a man who has devoted his life to the Catholic church, to serve out his days doing what he has loved for so many years is probably reward enough in his dying days. His Holiness is a man who gives hope to so many people and has attempted to cross the religious divides. His Holiness will remain, until his dying day, "Truly yours."

That's a bit harsh Zamo!
I'd just like to see people from different religions getting on better, not abolishing them alltogether!
