What was the steam train that left sheffield today about 12 noon? I could see all the steam and the carriages loooked old, like the orient express. I could only see from my upstairs window so didn't get a good look.

Oh yeah!

 feel really silly now.

Looking at the post it was late!

I do like steam trains, I remember my dad taking me on the Flying Scotsman when I was a child, it was great as I remember everyone waving at us almost all the way to Cleethorpes, It was great"

why via treeton on the return journey???

I presume for operational reasons you can not water in sheffield midland easily now as they took the water tank out watering in heeley loop (woodseats road bridge ) isnt really a good idea in the dark , so if you send it via treeton you can do it on a line which is relatably quiet , you also avoid a very steep climb out of sheffield and add a bit of variety for the line bashers

The May 9th edition (Number 349) of Steam Railway magazine as an artiicle in it named "When hope is gone" this is by Les Nixon and includes lots of shots over 5 pages, very nice shot of black five 44888 at hope station on a sheffield to manchester central local and various shots in the hope valley .

Should bring back some memories enjoy
