View Full Version : What is Halfway like as an area?
Raychul69 08-12-2007, 20:45 Just been to look at a house today and it's perfect
Just wanted any advice or comments anyone has got because never had a lot to do with the area or know what it's like. We've seen the house on Halfway Gardens if this helps :)
muddycoffee 08-12-2007, 20:54 My brother moved away from Halfway a couple of years ago because he felt that it was too far away from the main city. His house was large with a large garden as they are slightly cheaper out there.
He now lives in a much smaller house in S5 so he can be closer to work and his friends. As far as I know he had a pieceful time there with no problems.
I know that he would really love to live back in Hillsborough, but it is too expensive to buy at the moment with the price of property.
sufc_tom 08-12-2007, 21:09 I think two thirds of the population in halfway agree that no quarter is asked nor given in those areas.

WHAT???? Is it me being a trout or was that complete gibberish? Forgive me if I should have understood :suspect: :D
Sneakerfreak 08-12-2007, 23:00 It's a decent area - handy for the motorway, derbyshire etc.
Compared to somewhere like Broomhill it doesn't have the pubs, cafes etc. but on the other side it doesn't have the students (sorry!) or the crime.
So - if you're after somewhere with good value housing and don't expect a starbucks within 100 yards you'll be fine.
Halfway has some nice areas westfield is a bit of a dump so if you avoid there you'll be fine
Sheff2006 10-12-2007, 20:42 Hi there.
Best area in Halfway is Heathlands Estate by far.
When properties come up for sale or rent on here they usually get sold/let in a few days.
Hope this helps.
carlosspencer12 12-12-2007, 13:20 yeh i live there its a great area tbh - morrisons and crystal peaks are close plus its only 15-20min on a good day to town - plus good links all over
Lindseyw 12-12-2007, 13:43 Yep gets my vote, nice area, easy access to everywhere - good choice.
GuitarChick 23-01-2008, 15:26 I've also spotted a nice-looking house at Halfway. I was wondering, did you pay the advertised price or did you end up having to go higher? The house I've seen I can afford at the asking price but not if it goes much higher, so I'm wondering if houses are tending to go at, above or below the asking price in the area.
Thanks! x

We went to see our house after being on the market for only 4 days and had our offer which was £2,500 less than the asking price accepted, I think we may have been lucky as the vendor wanted a quick sale and we are cash buyers so it put us in a good position. :)

On the one hand it's nice that not every house there is going above the asking price... but on the other I'm definitely not a cash buyer, so I probably won't get so lucky! Thanks for replying though! x

You could try though, less buyers about at the moment.
Raychul69 24-01-2008, 10:55 Yeah Glennis is right, Unless you get two people going against each other to buy it you have a good chance of getting it below asking price.
When me and the hubby enquired about houses we always asked how long it had been on the market for and tended to go with ones that had been on a bit longer, the only reason we went to see the one we have bought originally was because it said there was a tv in the bathroom and we wanted to be nosey! lol
GuitarChick 24-01-2008, 22:17 That's good advice -- thank you. :)
You're getting a TV in the bathroom? Wow! I didn't even think you could have one there because of all the electricals? I'd have gone to have a look too!
srtaylo0 30-01-2008, 16:07 we used to live on heathlands - nice estate, nice house - we moved from halfway to be closer to town centre. If you can deal with commute to town and having to get in your car to go to shop then you'll like it :)
