What computer do you have, it is from a company such as Dell, HP or Gateway if so what model, or a computer built by a smaller company or enthusiast?

That will be a starting point as to how you get around this problem

Usually this device is an Internal Modem, and it's usually not so easy to find out exactly what it is. Best thing is to remove the cover and look for the PCI device you should be able to figure out which one it is as a Internal Modem has atleast one RJ11 (Phone socket) at the back of the card, if it's branded then it shouldn't be a problem but if it's a generic far eastern internal modem it could be tricky.

Hope it help.

on the back it has a sticker that says
MEDION
Model: PC MT5
Typ: Med MT 91
Input max: AC203-204V-3A-50Hz
MED S/N : 48328010020685

does this HELP or mean anything to anyone:confused:

turn off the mains/computer,take of the side casing and try to see what it says on the card it will say on it what it is. put that into google followed by driver download, download and install it.
if its built in sound then read the name on the motherboardand do the same looking for audio

Ok goto medion (http://www.medion.co.uk/) and select Service and support then Driver & Updates bang in your S/No. and do a look-up.

Its probably a good idea to check which devices are not configured on the PC. If you can see 'My Computer' on your desktop right mouse click then go Hardware then Device Manager.

Have a look for any devices that have an exclamation mark? Post what you find.

If you have only just re-installed windows, make sure you visit windows update. This is not only for bug fixes. It allows windows to detect hardware better if your XP is a legit version, ive had many sound and modems come up as unknown, until you do a full windows update.
