View Full Version : Ugg / Sheepskin type boots - still cool or sooo last year?
Hi peeps, I just want to know what you all think of the infamous "Ugg" style boots? If you're reading this and thinking "what is she on about??!" then check out http://www.australian-uggs.com/fashion-sheepskin-boots.htm for info.
Anyways, I just want to know what you think - they started to get popular over here about 18 months ago and despite being kinda ugly to look at (hence the name!!) they are very comfy and have surprisingly lasted and can still be bought in most shops and are worn by the likes of Sienna Miller, Kate Moss and other such types. I have a couple of pairs (not genuine Ugg ones but some real suede ones anyway) and they are sooooo comfy and great in cold or warm weather. Sadly they have been hijacked by chavs (usually seen in baby pink or blue with the furry bit tucked over the top :gag:) but nevertheless they are still selling. Cowboy and Frye boots are 'the' hip things of the season right now, but these boots still sell in droves.
Do you think this craze is ever gonna end? Or have people realised how comfy and practical they are? Jus wanna know, cos I love them and intend to stock up now whilst they are easy to get hold of!!!
Sorry, more photos are here: http://www.australian-uggs.com/
I'm gunna dredge this up in six months time and laugh.
(You don't mind do you? ;) )
What do you think of leg warmers? They're comfy too. And batwing cardigans. And......
PS. I've got my eye on a pair of stilletto cowboy boots to go with my denim 'belt'.
Ok ok I get the point! But they really are comfy, although having said that whilst I don't aim to look "trendy", I don't want to look like I'm so five months ago!
I can't say I've ever even noticed them being in fashion to be honest.
PS. Your last post is highly contradictory.
It's late and I need sleep :P I will carry on wearing them as they are really comfy, but at the same time I don't want to look really sad. Seeing as they've been around for ages now, are they set to stay or do you think they will be going soon??
Some summer sun will despatch them. Then it'll be flip floppy sandals again (I don't have any of those either  )
mojoworking 06-02-2005, 00:00 You may be interested to learn that in Australia where the Ugg boot originated, these fleece-lined abominations are still hugely popular among certain socio-economic groups.
Unfortunately, they have become the height of white trash chic and anyone with an ounce of taste/self-respect would not be seen dead wearing them.
Imagine if every second person on the Manor wore them. That's the image they have in Australia. Think of them as the Oz contribution to shell suit culture.
Burn them now!
Here's an interesting footnote regarding Ugg boots. The little Aussie company that originated the boots and has been making them for decades has been screwed over by a big American shoe company. Even though they sold them as "Ugg boots", it seems the Aussie firm didn't bother to register the name "Ugg" (they regarded it as simply a nickname).
So a few years ago the American shoe company registered the name "Ugg" worldwide and has legally forced the Aussie firm that more or less invented them to stop calling their boots "Ugg". It's almost ruined the Australian company.
Funky Dave 06-02-2005, 00:16 Hey, I think that if you like them and they're comfy you should stick with them!
mega_monty 06-02-2005, 00:21 I think they look absolutely stupid, they remind me of something that old biddies used to wear a few years ago!
If you asked anyone a few years back if they would wear such footwear they would have said no way, its something that my granny would wear :D I've seen a good number of girls wearing these and thought OMG :gag: what do you look like

Exactly what I was thinking!!!
Just googled them, they look a bit oldfashioned to me, they must be comming back in style though, had gloves like that once, they were too hot, how are the ugg boots for driving ?
I find them ok to drive in but I haven't got a cheap scabby pair like those seen on the manor :P This was my original point - I don't want to look like a skanky cow from up there, but they really are comfy so I'm not gonna let narrow minded people who think they are chavvy put em down! Ok it's down to personal taste but they really are comfy.
the whole trademarking the UGG boot thing is silly - they see it as a generic term in Australia but some big fat cats from the USA came along and nabbed it. Hence why so called "genuine" Uggs will set you back £150, when in actual fact you can get a nice pair of real sheepskin ones (that are good in hot and cold) for less than £80 in some places.
On a similar theme then, what does everyone think to the cowboy obsession??! The amount of Sienna Miller wannabies around is hysterical. (If you dunno who she is, it's Jude Law's gf/fiancee now and she's a"boho" or basically a trendy hippy). She wears denim skirts, baggy floaty hippy tops with ugg or cowboy boots and massive brown belts with dodgy gold and rhinestone detailing on them - and her "look" has been adopted by tons of girls hoping to look like her - but we can't all be bvlonde, a slim size 8 and stunning!!
