I think if you go on the NHS direct site they will list them all in an area. Even if you don't find one (and I'd eat me hat if you didn't) you will get treatment at Charles Clifford opposite Jessop. When pregnant you should also get an NHS card giving you free dental treatment, prescriptions and optician tests for almost two years. Maternity exemption doesn't cover opticians - it covers dental as becoming pregnant can affect your gums, but there is no proof that pregnancy affects your eyes Pauline BHG 08-12-2007, 15:44 You should have no problem finding an NHS dentist in Sheffield, there are plenty. I called a few NHS Dentists (got them from the NHS Direct site). Only one was taking on NHS patients, but even then, it depended how much work you need done. So i went along and registered, paid for a check-up, and before the dentist had even got his tools out, he explained the whole NHS/Private/capped fee etc etc thing to me. As i smiled, he could see that i needed treatment on 2 of my front teeth ( i need a crown replacing and another crown at the other side). He told me there and then that the costs for my treatment would far outweigh the £189 (or whatever) capped Fee that i would be paying, and that he couldn't do it. He also said that i would struggle to find an NHS Dentist who WOULD do several hours of work on my teeth for that price, and that i should stick with Charles Clifford. But, i have been waiting 18 months to have my crown replaced at Charles Clifford, and have given up....... I am now going to have to go private, as it seems i have no choice. If my affected teeth were hidden, i wouldn't care. But they're not, so i DO care. Pauline BHG 08-12-2007, 15:45 I just want to add- the NHS dentist who offered me this advice, DOES NOT do Private Treatment, and also refunded me my check-up fee as he hadn't had to do a proper one. |
