Is anyone experiencing problems with the post?

I live in S10 and I have counted 8 parcels/letters that have got lost/delayed in the post. They were posted between 14 and 28 November and yes I know it is nearly Christmas so they'll be busy, but taking up to three weeks isn't exactly the speediest of service.

The 8 missing parcels/letters are just the ones that I am aware that are missing. I have also received two letters for a different address!

What's going on, please enlighten me.

PS - does anyone know the direct line to the sorting office in Crosspool.:help::help:

This is simular to some other threads recently get the sender to complete a missing item form for starters. Are you sure the items have been posted - beyond all reasonable doubt.

Have you checked the parcels hav ent been put behind bins or in a garage or outbuilding - and before you shout at me it as happened before like the fact that they are not always sent when the sender says they have been

I had a look for similar threads, but couldn't find any. Oh well......

No they've not been shoved anywhere nearby. I don't suppose you can ever be sure that the other person/company have posted them, it's just a coincidence that all of these items have gone missing all at the same time.

It's all a big mystery.

I did a thread about slow post down in S3 t'other week, seems to be back to normal now... I just hate the fact that it takes flippin' Play.com 5 days to deliver stuff, OK it comes from Jersey but it still shouldn't be as long as that IMO, especially when it's free postage.

Same in S12.
I'm sure the bloody parcel man saves them up till he's got a few and THEN delivers them.

Go on the Royal Mail website, there's a number there for customer service. I rang them, told them my complaint and maybe it was coincidence but the next day we got our missing parcels.
The woman I spoke to on the phone said she'd ring our depot and find out if there was a problem with deliveries.

I feel another phone call coming on......:D

I had a present posted for my girlfriend last monday by first class, recorded delivery. It hasn't yet arrived. The website who posted it have given me the tracking number and of it course it says no information is available until the item is delivered.

I have to wait 15 days to see if the item has got lost in the post. :(

I'm also in S10!

If you're not paying for the postage why should it take any less time?

Ever since the strike I have found the postal deliveries in S61 to be very unreliable items lost/not delivered perhaps I am just unlucky though.

I've had a number of parcels take 2 weeks plus to arrive. Yet parcels from Germany are taking a few days:suspect:

There seems to be no connection to the delayed parcels either, but they do eventually appear to turn up, albeit late

I live in S10 and it used to be most unusual not to receive mail. Since the strike, we seem to have mail free days.

I had a parcel dispatched from Amazon on Tuesday evening first class – royal mail. Didn’t expect it Wednesday but assumed it would be with us yesterday – no such luck. Didn’t get any other letters either. I assume that there will be a double post today.

Last week we got a delivery (parcel) on Sunday – most unusual! This wasn’t from a neighbour (i.e. wrongly delivered) but was a royal mail person.

Do you live on School Road? Noticed a royal mail van delivering just down the road from us last Sunday. Was rather surprised!

Was just about to post something similar as I am waiting for two parcels too (S10 area as well), one of them posted on the 26th November first class.

Went on the website and ist says to wait 15 days, not a happy bunny as I have other parcels on the way. Might just get them delivered to work...

So the consensus is that my parcel from Amazon that was posted on Tuesday probably won't get here until next week!

Someone sent us a parcel on 26 November (Monday). We received it on Wednesday 5 December.

You're lucky, Rich. I had a play delivery that arrived yesterday but was posted Nov 22.

Amazon deliveries are taking two and a half weeks on average.

And I live in S10, too.

I also live in S10, one day recently we had a postman who delivered next door's post to me and mine went next door down and this went on all the way down the road. Our post has been arriving well after 1pm for the last 2 weeks I know it's near Christmas but most people haven't even posted their cards yet. Next week we might get our post by 6pm!!

A parcel of mine was dispatched by Amazon on 11 Nov... still hasn't arrived and have now been refunded. I ordered the same item from HMV, which was dispatched on 27 Nov... still hasn't arrived and have to wait until Dec 12 before they will investigate (I hope this means refund with minimal fuss). One parcel that I did receive arrived 15 days after the post mark (1st class mail). I don't live in S10 but in general I think parcel deliveries are slower than usual in Sheffield, even for this time of year. Looks like I'll have to brave the shops for all the remaining xmas gifts that I would like to buy :(
It pains me to miss out on the Quidco though!

There are parcel backlogs in several offices - I know there are deliveries in S12/13 and other offices today.

This week has been busier than I can remember it, the real busy period doesn't usually start until the 2 weeks before xmas. I've done 45 hours overtime and haven't been to bed since tuesday :loopy:

Amazon themselves are backlogged, plus the collection and sorting of mail is done by another company, not Royal Mail. All Royal Mail does is deliver them. As they are handled by 3 different companies then I would assume that delays can have a knock on effect.

Play.com offer free postage yes, but they aren't going to send millions of items 1st class are they..they send by the cheapest option possible which is why they'll take longer to arrive than 1st class.

It's a sheffield online company that runs a cashback co-operative. http://www.quidco.com. Basically you buy things via their links and you get paid money for it. It's pretty easy to do, and you get a couple of % back on every purchase you make.

Xmas temps. This is the only time I ever have post problems. Xmas temps have nothing to lose and no loyalty so they have less reason to treat your mail with respect.

We've had no post at all for a nearly two weeks now! (We live just off School Rd, S10), we usually get atleast 15 bits of junk mail addressed to former occupants plus mail to ourselves each week so nothing at all is quite a change! Amazon posted a book on the 1st of December 1st class and it still hasn't arrived. :(

Anyone know if the Tapton sorting office is holding the undelivered mail or is that only where it goes when they can't deliver it?

I went to pick up a package from the Tapton office yesterday and the queue of people waiting to collect stuff was out the door. I heard the man behind the counter tell someone who was enquiring about an Amazon parcel posted on 4 December to try again in a few days as they had a large backlog of stuff to clear.

Now for some good news. I made a purchase on the bay Thursday night, it must have been posted Friday and I received it Satuday noon How about that ???
It was sent first class, not even S.D., so maybe it's the cheaper options that are slow.

Went to pick up two parcels from the Tapton Road office today and the queue was long with three people in the background giving out parcels.

The service has been diabolical everywhere since the strike. Amongst other things I have not received are an insurance renewal notice and a form to retax the car, they have simply disappeared.

I have found that none of the first class post I have sent or been expecting to receive has arrived next day. Some hasn't arrived for up to ten days later and some hasn't arrived at all. Also since they started the new method of charging for bigger letters, if the letter has been underpaid not only do they ask for the difference in postage and a £1 admin charge, the letter is delayed for at least a week. People put first class stamps on for a reason and deliberately delaying letters is a vindictive action by the Royal Mail who know this might cause a problem to the recipient.

There was plenty of notice about the new pricing system, and for the first few months unpaid items weren't charged - they just had a reminder sticker put on them.

It's not 'deliberately delaying letters' - if people can't be bothered to check the pricing or think a 32p stamp will do for anything, that's their fault.

It always amases me when we talk about this no one ever comments about the people who now save money when the scheme was introduced the first weight step was moved from 60g to 100g which meant that a lot of items that previously had to pay the 2nd step now go for the first price step .

But as Rob 1 said people should check before hand and not presume it is ok.

First Class Letter 34p, Large Letter 48p.
Second Class Letter 24p, Large Letter 40p.

These rates apply to items up to 100 grams.

In the Good Old Days, underpaid letters were not delayed - they stuck a "TO PAY" stamp on them (with a value equal to double the deficiency in postage) and the postman collected this. In fact, so keen were Royal Mail to collect the money that quite often, unpaid or underpaid letters travelled faster than correctly stamped ones. Unfortunately, times change. and now you have to collect the item from the delivery office, or stick stamps of the right value (£1 + the deficiency) on the notification card and post it back to the office.

It is really up to the person who drops a letter into the pillar box to know the correct postage rate for whatever he/she is posting.

lets just get something straight shall we

Surcharged items have always had a slight delay they could slip back one day due to having to be surcharged , however the bigest problem is that theere was a change in policy some time back surcharged items were taken out by the delivery person who knocked at the door they then handed the item over for the cash, if there was no one in then the item if the delivery person didnt return to the office had to go back in the system to be returned to the office . This caused probelms especially as the vast majority of people arnt in during the day so therefore it was decided that the form would go out without the item , you can however put stamps on the form and they will send it on to you so the bigest part of the delay is at the house old end .

There is a very simple way to stop all this MAKE SURE YOU PAY THE CORRECT POSTAGE

the vast majority of people aren't in during the day

The fact is that the first delivery of mail used to be made in the early morning, before people left for work etc. Not any more.

There is a very simple way to stop all this MAKE SURE YOU PAY THE CORRECT POSTAGE

Couldn't agree more.

lets just get something straight shall we. Surcharged items have always had a slight delay

Not if you go back far enough. Somewhere in my stamp collection is an envelope that arrived one morning in 1973 (at about 7-25 a.m., as was usual in Dykes Hall Road at that time). There was a surcharge to pay as it had been posted unpaid. The postmark showed the the letter had been posted in Manchester the previous afternoon. My brother (now retired after many years as a postman) told me at the time that unpaid or underpaid letters often travelled faster then ordinary ones, due to the way in which they were handled, but the system changed soon afterwards.

Of course it's deliberately delayed and if the Royal Mail is getting an extra £1 for so called "admin" which is simply sticking a sticker on the envelope, it is quids in.

We're on a rural delivery route, in S10. We get post every other day at the moment, but strangely there are always two bundles of letters in each delivery... can't imagine why.

We were due a delivery by Parcelforce this Wednesday. I waited in, it didn't arrive. I phoned Parcelforce, to ask if they needed directions as our house is very hard to find, and was told it was on its way and would be delivered by 6PM--but that if it wasn't, would I like them to deliver it to the Lodge Moor post office on Friday instead? I agreed to that, as it seemed better than having to wait in for it.

On Thursday my husband was going past the Parcelforce depot in Rotherham so went in to ask for the parcel: was told that the driver had taken it out again, had tried to deliver it but there was no one home he had left a note (although I was at home all day, and no note was left), and had taken it to Lodge Moor. But as the post office was shut, he'd left it at the fruit shop next door, instead.

On Friday we went to collect it and it was not at the fruit shop. Eventually we discovered it had been recollected by the Parcelforce driver, and handed over to the post office.

We went to the post office to collect it, and were charged 50p for having it redirected to them. When I said I'd not been told I'd have to pay this, the post office counter man said I would have "tacitly agreed" to the charge by agreeing to the redirection. Hmmm. He agreed that Parcelforce was in the wrong here, but advised me NOT to complain as they could, apparently, refuse to deliver to us any more.

I think that there's a bit of sorting out to do there.

That's not right, The Royal Mail have a legal obligation on behalf of the sender to deliver which is why you can ask them not to deliver junk mail but they still do because they have been paid by the sender, their customer.

This thing I have read many times on here about drivers leaving notes but not the parcel I find hard to believe, why would he do that and make it harder for himself having to return again?
