View Full Version : Old Blue Ball - Hillsborough - late license application. Want your say?
Hello all,
I've recently heard that the Old Blue Ball in Hillsborough is applying for a late license to serve alcohol until 1am. I thought this would be a good place to bring this up as I know a lot of people from Hillsborough and Owlerton use these boards.
If any local residents want to comment on this application they can e-mail general.licensing@sheffield.gov.uk or write to:
Sheffield City Council
Licensing General Section
Town Hall

Last time they applied for this the application was refused as local residents objected strongly!
Obviously Cllr. Ayris and I will both be opposing this as it will undoubtedly cause misery to people living nearby - a lot of residents have complained to us about the noise coming from the OBB, fights breaking out, etc... however, we'd be interested to know what people think about this in general.
We're expecting the application to be heard within three weeks, so if you'd like to comment I would recommend doing so as soon as possible.
Regards,
Joe
I didnt realise that du.. err I mean pub was still open.
Mind you its about 25 years since Ive been there lol
fox20thc 06-12-2007, 16:55 I'm sure the Hawsley Ave. residents are putting in an objection. Are the lib dems saying anything about the improvements on Bradfield road too?
Late license for the Ball?! I've only ever been in about twice in my life, but I wouldn't object to it, it would keep the local Hillsborough C words off the streets late at night.

Until they spill out even later having consumed even more...
It's a no from me then! :hihi:

I'd love to know what a "local Hillsborough C word is", am I one??? I live in Hillsborough and go out in Hillsborough so does that quallify me I wonder (D)

I don't think the Freemasons has such a unique group of........cilente (sp?)
Last time i went in the OBB . it was very intimidating, lots of obviously underage chavs, drug dealing and general roughness, it's not somewhere i've chosen to go back to.

No dear, you aren't one, by the way, a C word is a chav, the Mods don't like that word so I abbreviate it to C word.

I was wrong again I thought it mean something else still approipate but the mods definetly dont like it
Trouble is that when all the other pubs shut then everyone will pile into the OBB and there will be 5x more drunken stupor, violence, rowdyness and drug dealing etc than at this present time. Think about the residents not to mention damage to cars etc from drunks making there way (or trying to make there way) home.

Yes, we did a survey on it in fact! :D
My recommendation is that they not narrow the entrance to Hawksley Avenue - like it or not, great big lorries have to go down there to reach the rear of the Hillsborough Shopping Centre and narrowing it could cause absolute chaos...
Also they should take out the pay parking bays on Bradfield Road - that left-hand lane approaching Hillsborough Corner should remain clear during the day imo. I've seen too many near misses near that Owlerton Green roundabout caused by everyone squeezing into one lane!
The rest of the scheme seems fine - it does seem to include the world's smallest cycle lane, but I don't see any reason to actively object to it I suppose...
We've written to the Highways Dept. to let them know our views.
I drink in Hillsborough & would not go near the Ball. I agree with the previous description of the dubious clientele.
I don't know how it has remained open so long. I have heard & seen reports of many serious incidents outside the Ball, particularly on a Thursday when I think the drinks are even cheaper than usual.
I will definitely make my view known. Cheers for this.

yep i agree, there are fights most nights and the pub does seem to breed trouble,
MissChatter 06-12-2007, 23:43 I also agree, there is enough trouble in the blue ball as it is, though I cannot see them being granted a late licence until they have proved they have cleaned up their act.
briggy1967 06-12-2007, 23:52 Believe me they aint cleaned up their act, went in there yesterday for a quick beer with wifey before going home and its REALLY gone downhill.Bar Maid (small with a skin problem) was telling people to eff off when they wanted serving cos she was eating a sarnie!!!
Btw does anyone know.remember someone called Jayne who goes in the ball, used to be married to bloke called Tony who worked in chemical factory down from the ball?
p.m me if you do,cheers
Ms Macbeth 07-12-2007, 06:26 I don't live near the Ball, but I know the clientele do cause problems for the residents in that area. Hillsborough Residents' Association has also objected to the application.
