In accordance with the Freedom of Information act Britain's 10 oldest state secrets have been public. The BBC requested that the information was made public.

I can't see what all the fuss is about to be honest. So, which of the 10 is the best? :)

The shooting on the IOW - as someone who lived there for a good few years I can confirm this was in fact the last exiciting thing to happen on the island... :P

The telegram betting one is interesting because of the involvement of Churchill and the fact that within just a few years the Government were reading every blessed telegram that went between the UK and the rest of the world - and the ones that were passed through the UK.

The interception of telecommunications was very much in it's infancy, but it very quickly became part of the state's toolkit.

The criminal cases are weird because nowadays they're typical of what you read in the newspapers.....Possible indication that the reaction of the authorities to unpleasantness has changed over the year in that they now find crimes that back then were worth burying in the archives just typical.
