View Full Version : Before they were Famous
I got to thinking the other day that I have worked with 2 people who went onto being Famous… just wondered if there was anyone else on the Forum who has had this privilege… If so who? an what they doing now?
The first person being Amanda Lamb… She was the woman in the Scottish Widow ad… also did a wedding programme… I do believe she is doing something at the moment on telly too according to Big John on Hallam FM… (not quite sure as to what tho :?) I worked with her in an Estate Agent ( Vail Estate Agents) who got bought out by Halifax… becoming Halifax Property Services… this was back in Havant quite a few years ago when I was on a YTS scheme lol…
The second was Leilani Dowding… She became a face of Page 3… also went in for Miss Great Britain or some kinda competition like that… I worked with her in a fast food diner in a Bowling Alley back in Bournemouth… I was her supervisor an taught her everything she knew about cooking lol…shame she decided to move onto better things… such as showing off her own baps! Instead of the ones that happen to come with a burger
I also went out with Martin Metcalf who went onto be a Radio DJ for Power FM a station down south… Does the Dance chart...
It wasnt myself but my friend used to work with Richard McCourt AKA Dick of Dick and Dom fame at Crystal Radio, which I belive was in one of the hospitals in sheffield, may have been the childrens...
Oh and not exactly Famous, but my cousin is Antony Gay, old Hallam FM presenter.

Always a scary thought :hihi:
I can't honestly think of anyone famous I've worked with.. The potential celebs are always to clever to avoid the Civil Service
I went to College with Sean Bean or Beerny as we used to call him. He was then a Plater working for his dads company Darwin and Bean. My other half laughs when he is on tv, and I say
"Ey up Beernys on"
I thought there would have been quite a few people out there... who in the past have worked with someone or known someone who later went onto be famous???
Kristian 05-02-2005, 18:21 I used to work with a woman called Liz. She never did much. but she was always very pleasant, and waved at me when I arrived at work.
I always thought she would go far, but she never got on with the boss 'cos she kept bringing her little dogs in to work with her. Her kids were all scroungers; none of them had a proper job!
How shocked was I when I saw her addressing the nation at 3pm on Christmas Day a couple of years ago! We don't talk now; I send her letters, but she gets her lady in waiting to reply...

Oh! Perlease..... :loopy:
The intention of this thread was to be taken seriously... I was curious... as they all start of in the normal world... before moving on into the world of 'ShowBiz'
alchresearch 05-02-2005, 19:31 My missus used to work at Butlins Pwllheli with 'H' from Steps.
And she knows the guy who played the drummer 'Mickah Wallace' in The Commitments.

You really dont know what she does? Maybe I watch to much TV as she always seems to be on Channel 4 showing people round houses in hot places. A place in the Sun is one of the programmes, I am sure she does other ones too though. Sounds like she had a plan when she was working in that Estate Agents!!

Maybe, but they do make out she finds the properties and matches up with what the people want. Might be just for the effect though. Most of the presenters on these things do come from that sort of job though. I guess its harder to make a good estate agent (or whatever the term for people who find properties is) than make a good presenter out of someone.
Dont think I knew anyone who is now famous a few lower league footballers went to my school but I didn't really know them.
miniminch 06-02-2005, 00:41 I used to go out with princess Di before she was a famous, and you know she changed after that. A fish and chip supper on the way back from the red lion wasnt good enough for her. Obviously that was before my current girlfriend Sonia Bin Laden daughter of Osama - the terrorist. Small world.

mojoworking 06-02-2005, 02:46 Just off the top of my head: Adam Ant and Joe Strummer
I went to school with Andy Kershaw, world music supremo from BBC radio.
Does that count?
I went to a school in Teddington (just outside central London) and Keira Knightly was two years below me. Her family still live in Teddington apparently.

Stuart Goddard (Adam Ant) designed some catalogues for my company when he was still at high school.
I drove Joe Strummer's pre-Clash band (The 101'ers) to a gig around 1975/76
