View Full Version : Park & Arbourthorne Club - Closed down wendelspans 04-12-2007, 21:15 Is the P&A about to shut down ? Mr Pops 04-12-2007, 22:15 yep ive heard its to close soon. R.A.N.D 04-12-2007, 22:50 about time the dump:hihi: pertfoxylush 05-12-2007, 07:42 Yes it is, they've gone into 'voluntary liquidation' I know someone who works there, they weren't told before a sign went up to advise of the closure. They haven't been given a date either, they're just turning up work and hoping it's still open. dazmitch 05-12-2007, 15:56 thats a shame cos i cant get in any of the other clubs on there cos u need to be a member.... wat am i gonna do with my sunday afters now eh???? Mr Pops 07-12-2007, 22:06 Manor dont check for a club book, mind you the beer aint as good KJ_VENOM 07-12-2007, 22:36 Working mens clubs are a lost cause, they have no appeal to younger people, their regular members are getting older and newer members are not coming in at a rate to keep viable. The Dial house club used to be huge, now its rubble! I can see the P&A going the same way. Part of the blame has to be the commitees of the clubs that dont move with the times, the smoking ban has to have had an effect to, i pass the P&A every saturday on my way to work and see people stood outside smoking, why do that when you can stay in the house with a few Netto price cans and stay warm. Watch for more clubs and pubs going to the wall over the next 6 or so months czechroman 07-12-2007, 22:38 Working mens clubs are a lost cause, they have no appeal to younger people, their regular members are getting older and newer members are not coming in at a rate to keep viable. The smoking ban will hit hard now. happyhippy 07-12-2007, 22:42 thats a shame cos i cant get in any of the other clubs on there cos u need to be a member.... wat am i gonna do with my sunday afters now eh???? I always used to get in with my CIU membership, either that or get recommended to join one of the other two. It has been a while since I did the City Road amble though ....... might have to go up for Old Times' Sake ....... It has been a while since I did the City Road amble though ....... might have to go up for Old Times' Sake ....... The P&A lost its CIU affiliation a few years back, and became a private club. Only the Manor and Arundel will let you in with a CIU book now. sarah1 08-12-2007, 13:48 The P&A lost its CIU affiliation a few years back, and became a private club. Only the Manor and Arundel will let you in with a CIU book now. You must be thinking of another club.. The P&A is not a private club.. reach easy 08-12-2007, 13:52 Is the P&A about to shut down ? hope so.............. wendelspans 08-12-2007, 17:27 The P&A lost its CIU affiliation a few years back, and became a private club. Only the Manor and Arundel will let you in with a CIU book now. No it hasn't. Olec 08-12-2007, 17:46 Is this the P&A Labour Club were talking about? Shame, I went to see a wrestling show there last year, seemed like a nice place. slh73 08-12-2007, 17:58 No it hasn't. So why did the Arundel and Manor have signs up saying no entry to for people with P&A books? wendelspans 08-12-2007, 20:06 So why did the Arundel and Manor have signs up saying no entry to for people with P&A books? No idea, when was this ? happyhippy 08-12-2007, 20:06 So why did the Arundel and Manor have signs up saying no entry to for people with P&A books? A club can make up it's own rules for who can go in, say, if they thought it would cause trouble, but you'd need a CIU card, and noy just a P&A membership card to get in anyway. Mind you, as I said, it has been a long time since I went up there. I did think the P&A was still CIU though. It has had a bit of a, well, chequered life in recent years. I don't know if that's any reason for it shutting. happyhippy 08-12-2007, 20:09 The P&A lost its CIU affiliation a few years back, and became a private club. Only the Manor and Arundel will let you in with a CIU book now. That's why I said try to get recommended to join either the Manor social, or the Arundel. I meant I could get in with my CIU to those. Maybe I didn't word it well. Newsnerd 10-12-2007, 14:08 A POPULAR Sheffield Working Men’s Club faces it’s third battle against closure in a little more than four years Creditors will meet on Wednesday to decide the destiny of the Park and Arbourthorne Club which could face a winding up order under the Insolvency Act 1986. The club, in Eastern Avenue Manor Top, which over the years has hosted the biggest acts in clubland, survived similar orders in 2004 and 2003. The meeting is to take place at the offices of insolvency experts Wilson Field, The Annexe, The Manor House, Ecclesall Road South on Wednesday at 12.15pm. sparky2 12-12-2007, 08:33 Just wondered if anyone had heard anything from the meeting yesterday afternoon. I have just looked at the online edition of The Star but nothing there.
