Hey how does everyone feel about yet another Starbucks in Sheffield? This time in Division Street! Now this has always been a street that has a little something for anyone and everyone. What is going to oe next? McDonalds? GAP? Heaven help us!!!

I have absolutely no problem with there being a Starbucks on Division Street. At least I won't have to sit in a sea of thick smoke when I want an espresso (like in Utopia).

It's good. There aren't any other coffee shops on Division street so I welcome it. Personally I don't like Starbucks coffee much. I think that Zoobies in the winter garden make a far better cup.

The next natural place for a Starbucks will be Eccleshall Road, but there's a lot more competition there, particularly with Coffee Revolution being very popular.

We've discussed Starbucks to death on this forum...if you don't like it, don't go...cross the street as you walk past if the place annoys you that much....

End of!

I don't know why people are so concerned with Division/Devonshire Street being for the "non-chains". It's chains galore - from the bottom - RSVP, SPAR, Lloyds, Yates, Fopp, Central Fire Station, Private, Printing.com, Subway, and probably a few more. Like someone else says - there's no other coffee specialist on the road, so it will add to its all round appeal.

I bought some Starbucks Coffee by mistake the other month, when I realised i was so annoyed I got my petty revenge by stealing a handful of the ‘Starbucks Coffee’ heat sleeve things, adbusting them to say F*** Off, then slipping them at random interval back into the pile.

Pointless and immature I know, but it did make me feel better.

Incidentally the coffee was bad, I for one won’t give them my custom again.

I was picking up a friend of mines daughter from Leeds university when I went for a coffee in the cafeteria, I asked for a coffee and when it came it was in a cup with, proud to serve you Sarbucks coffee all over it.

What is it with the people on this forum? They whinge when big companies avoid Sheffield and they whinge when they DO come.

Surely it's going to help bring other business to the town. Sure, many Sheffield folk might not be Starbucks regulars or clientele, but hopefully it will bring in tourists with money who are.

Manchester city centre has about SEVEN Starbucks, all within five minutes walking distance of each other.

Good on yer, Disco_Cat. Let the anger out - if you don't, it'll just fester away, and turn you into a seething mass of negativity.

Wish I'd thought of it!

I've no problem with their being a starbucks (even if it is an overpriced inferior product!) but it won't stop me using The Lounge for my coffee needs :)

It might.

Subway has stopped my friend being able to get tasty nutritious bagels on Eccy road.

I can't understand what all the fuss is about Starbucks, nobody seems to shout and scream about the amount of Gregg's.

Greggs!! now they are taking over. in chesterfield there are three within less than 2 minutes walk from each other. and chesterfield is tiny!!. i don't care how many open up but i wouldn't think there would be call for 3 in such a small area

Overpriced shops on Divison street!!!!!!!!:loopy:

whatever next? Why not have an overpriced ponsey Coffee Shop next to an Overpriced Poncy bar or overpriced sandwich shop? Considering how criminally overpriced the clothing stores are on there I see no point in complaining about the price of coffee. Most of that street would be better off levelled to the ground for me.

I like the complete randomness of this.

Imagine sitting there with your coffee, and noticing someone had written F*** Off on it! It would make my day!

Don't get me started, I swear there is a new Gregg's in town every time I go down there on a Saturday.

They are okay, and fairly inexpensive, but variety being the spice of life and all that it is fairly depressing how these chains are taking over our town centres.

Starbucks are still not in the same league as Carphone Warehouse (and the others), how many branches can they need in one city, Fargate must have about 6 mobile phone shops now, thats why people don't come into town for shopping anymore.

Yeah, I guess I don't notice that though cos I'm not really that interested in mobile phone shops - and they are not putting any locally run phone shops out of business, and I think thats whats so bad about the food and clothes chain stores, they homogenise everything.

Seeing as the opening of Starbucks on Division Street brings the total number of their Sheffield outlets [excluding Meadowhall] to 2 (two!) I think it's a wee bit early to start the alarm bells ringing.

Personally, I have no problems with Starbucks at all. It's true that I _do_ prefer the coffee from Zoobys, Utopia and Costa (Waterstones), but for a city the size of Sheffield there is a still a shortfall for this kind of outlet, so I can't see how this is a problem.

That's my take on it, anyway.

Personally I'm happy to see another Starbucks on Division Street. If I'm in the area and want a quick espresso I'd much rather go there than Utopia which allows people to smoke (yuck, disgusting!).

Well Costa fortune coffee..... in Waterstones.... is not the greatest... usually depends on who serves you the same can be said for the one on Fargate...

I have to say what I enjoy are the smaller independent cafe/coffee shops... such as the Blue moon. and the one which has taken over the old Blue Moon shop...(cant remember its’ name at the moment… but their coffee, hot chocolates and cakes are wonderful… as is the service

Though I think the rates (old huh!) /council tax for a shop on Division street would be sooo astronomical that only the really big chains could afford it!

As a non-smoker I have to say I've never noticed it [smoke] being a particular issue/problem in Utopia.. but having said that a few people have mentioned it on this Forum so perhaps there's something in it.

I used to live in NYC, now i know Sheffield isnt New York but at the last count there was about 150 Starbucks in Manhattan alone. So i think having a couple of Starbucks in Sheffield isnt all that much to worry about.

You're frequently met by a sea of smoke when you enter - hardly appealing when you want to sit back and relax.

Its a bit like global warming though, you don't start the alarm bells ringing when your house is under 50 feet of water, because its a little on the late side then!

I take it from that post that "Bagel Time" has now finally gone for good? (if so, a shame - I know there were the alleged rats on the property etc.etc. but the bagels themselves were excellent whenever I used to go there..)

I think Utopia is Slimsid's favourite coffee place in Sheffield.
