Did that global rich list and am only (!) in the top 12%. Want to be knowing what jobs some of you lot have got that give you all that cash AND plenty of time chatting on SHeffield Forum! I know, But having spent time with people wanting every penny I had and then some, and trying to work out whether a human being CAN live on little more than beans for a week, money is pretty damn important. Within me I have everything else I value; but I still have to have a roof over my head and for that you need money. From experience, the 'starving artist in the garret' is one of the most perfidious lies ever told. Anyone who is creative cannot work at their best if they're worried that everyone coming to teh door is a Bailiff. Those periods may give food for thought, but to express them requires periods of peace, calm and security - a safe place to work - and that's what money buys you. If aimed at me - well, I don't think I act that rich. Dore would be nice, but I quite like Walkley. No point living in an expensive house if you're busting a gut to pay the mortgage on it. It's an interesting observation about whether teh way we act reflects on what our wealth is. I was talking to a bloke in the office this morning who'd spent part of his weekend with a millionaire and he was pleasantly surprised at how laid back and 'normal' this guy was. Although I've also read that by 'acting' the part it helps you accumulate wealth. Not sure how that's supposed to work, mind you, but I guess it's a confidence thing. Didn't mean to be ratty towards you! Joe nick2 22-11-2004, 11:28 Originally posted by JoePritchard Hi Nick, No, I was just genuinely interested! My dad works for a millionaire (he builds houses) and he's a nice guy because he doesn't feel the need to contstantly tell you how much money he has got, or where he lives, or what car he's got. I've always suspected that realy rich people don't brag about it. JoeP 22-11-2004, 11:38 Originally posted by nick2 No worries. I've always suspected that realy rich people don't brag about it. Yup, Would agree there. There's an interesting book called 'The Millionaire Mind' by a US academic where he basically picks apart the lifestyles of 'typical' millionaires - not your Warren Buffet or Bill Gates, but 'average' millionaires - and looks at what they do, etc. Most interesting. There's a thousand things I could save money on at the moment, but I just haven't got round to sorting them! Then once I have the money to invest.. I need to figure out how I invest it, and what to invest it on! A talk with the bank manager is on the cards I think.. There's a lot of interesting statistical information in there form a US perspective, though I suspect quite a bit of it is also applicable to the UK.
