I am planning to have a split level detatched double garage, constructed out of breeze block, built at the end of my garden subject to planning permission. The floor space will be in the region of 7mx7m. Has anyone got an idea of the cost of such a venture? And can anyboby reccommend a good builder?

I'm about to be told off, but.......

Split level? How do you park a car in a split level garage?

I am guessing it will be storage above the car. WOuld be interesting to hear the costs involved

There is an access road along the back of and higher than the garden and a hard standing area that will just fit a small car. This extends into the garden with a wall down to floor (grass)level. I want to extend that hard standing bringing it further into the garden and extend sideways to accommodate two cars and as the cars will be higher than the garden/floor level have a ramp or stairs to get access to the cars. Then build walls round the whole thing and put a roof on it. Is that clearer?

That sounds pretty cool, and quite interesting

Sounds pretty straight forward doesn't it? Impossible to suggest a price though without seeing the area so don't accept a telephone quote. Underground pipes for example don't take kindly to having a concrete slab and a car sitting on top of them, in other words there could be some work required to prepare the area. Also planning applications can be turned down if you're using the wrong type of brick, the wrong roofing, in some places the wrong colour paint as they say it's not in keepig with the area.

So, where does that username originate from, WB? I was never sure whether you were a bricky or not :suspect:

What if you already have a concrete sectional garage and want to do a straight swap for a breeze blocked one.

My user name has a couple of meanings
1. It is loosely connected to my surname
2. I built a wall around myself so the fairer sex can NEVER hurt me again
I am a student of life and over the years have picked up on a fairly large amount of what used to be called 'useless nuggets of gold' I'm nosy and inquisitive and have many interests unlike the typical male who has food, sex and sport thoughts. The drain thing was because my brother tried to lay a new drive and several drains cracked over time. Try living at Millhousesss and building a garage that doesn't fit in with the rest of the properties in the area you've no chance.

2. was my guess. Sorry WB. It's probably why I don't get on with 'girls' much. Never understood them
