Our westie goes to a great groomers down near wooley wood bottom, but i think they only groom westies. I used to work for "all dogs", so trust me, don't go there!! nikita 07-11-2005, 01:28 PM My dog goes to alldogs in rotherham never had a problem. They pick him up and bring him back in a couple of hours. Anton06 07-11-2005, 01:35 PM I can't really comment. I did work for one day at the Rotherham all dogs so i can't say what they're like. I was sent there for the day whilst i was working at the sheffield all dogs. I'm not gonna say anymore than, after what i saw, i'd rather groom my own dogs! I used to work for "all dogs", so trust me, don't go there!! Where is this & what is it called ? Anton06 07-11-2005, 03:08 PM It's called "Boweslyon" dog groomers. As i say, i think they only groom westies or other small dogs. If you know wooley wood bottom, heading towards meadowhall from the direction of Ecclesfield, about half way down, before the long stretch that actually leads to wincobank, there's a left turn under a railway bridge. Take this turn and then go straight up. You'll go underneath another bridge with the M1 overhead, carry on straight up and almost immediately, you'll see a white house to the left. That's it. The phone number is: 01142 468898 :D Lindseyw 07-11-2005, 03:21 PM BRILLIANT THANKS !! Mine is an extremely stubborn, wilful and strong minded critter who is currently depositing a trail of black and white hairs all around the house and furniture like Hansel and flamin Gretel . His nails are long, his coat is thick and moulty, his teeth need cleaning, and God only knows what state his anal glands are in as he is constantly dragging his bottom on the floor in an attempt to clear them (apologies for anyone reading this whilst having lunch).:hihi: I have taken him along to various dog salons to see if any brave soul will take on the task but nay - they must have enough custom coming in without taking on the thug element of the canine population. He will just about put up with having a bath, so that's on the agenda for this weekend. Old clothes and plenty of towels are a must as a fight always ensues and we get as wet as he does. I can just about do his teeth too but anything else is a gladiatoral challenge. A trip to Pets at Home yesterday made us the newly proud owners of a very flashy set of electric trimmers. As soon as we got him on our lap and switched the buggers on he was off like a greyhound out of a trap. I think the softly softly approach may be in order so am having him on my knee whilst watching telly and every now and then we switch the clippers on so he can get used to the noise. (He hasn't yet.. ) It does make me wonder who is in charge though. We muzzle him when we have to do anything we know he won't like so I can use that, but he still struggle and squirms so much it would take about three strong people to pin him down. So. Apart from sedation or the liberal use of cannabis - does anyone have any suggestions? Or know any volunteers??:help: technophobe 23-06-2006, 01:32 PM naaaa worry hen...... dr dolittle will sort the prob. You didnt even need to buy the clippers as I have a brand new set. But I am sure i will manage to assist in giving him a doggy makeover. :hihi: Debk 23-06-2006, 01:35 PM We use A & M dog groomers now - they pick up from the door no fuss! see http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=69862 Robbie_Lovin 23-06-2006, 02:06 PM msbehavin were in woodseats are you? il come round and do it :D il bring snoop so he can play with him too :D Cranberry 28-07-2006, 02:51 PM Colin, my border terrier from the RSPCA rescue centre, is wilting in this heat. He needs his fur clipped for the first time and won't like the idea. 'Phoned up a salon and they said if he is nervous i.e. likely to need a muzzle, the best thing is to get a mobile dog groomer to call. Don't know any so personal recommendations would help. Bladette11 28-07-2006, 03:40 PM Hiya, I used to have a golden cocker spaniel & he was very nervous, I got in touch with a mobile groomer called Manday at mingin mutts, she was excellent, she didn't even have to muzzle him. Hope this helps graceomally 28-07-2006, 06:36 PM The only one I know of is mandy at mingin muts, apparently she is very good and clearly she is busy as she's taking on staff. Try ringing her, the number is in the phone book and she is based in stocksbridge i think but drives natty little van all over the area. If you cant find anyone at all and feel stuck, you can buy clippers at argos and do it yourself, but the only safe trim is to cut the lot off as it takes a lot of skill to do anything clever, and I dont know what you do with their hairy little paws, horse are easy by comparison, they end in teeth or hooves, so its obvious where to stop! If he's never been clipped before then dont try, best get it done by a professional just in case. You can bath him a lot, but dont use soap or shampoo, just warm water as you will give him scurf and possibly worse by taking the oils out of his coat if you use soaps more than once a month at the most (if you must, best not to at all if you can) - then dont dry him, just let it evaporate. My little bullyX turns purple every day and i wet him down and leave him in front of the cellar door. the farmers are saying its going to carry on hot all thru august as well, ooer, so its probably worth it. Cranberry 30-07-2006, 01:39 PM Thanks for the replies. max 30-07-2006, 01:44 PM One of my neighbours runs an outfit called Barkers: Barkers Tel: 0114 234 1193 Classification: Pet Services I don't know enough about them to recommend them, unfortunately. Marber 30-07-2006, 04:27 PM I use Barkers and she is very good and everyone admires my shih tzu's cut. She is very patient and has been clipping my dog for about 18 months now. Bouncy 30-08-2006, 03:27 PM Does anyone know of a dog groomer who is mobile or can collect and return my dog. I have limited mobility, my dogs are walked by family twice a day and a neighbour walks them at lunchtime every day. I just don't feel I can ask them to do this aswell. Most places are closed when hubby is at home to take them. My Springer could do with a good brush, even though we spend at least an hour every day removing bits of tree and seed pods from her coat. We clean her teeth and ears regularly but as she is only 8 months old she hasn't had a full grooming experience yet. We feel she is ready for it now and I think it's a job for a proffessional. Who new Springers collected so much debris? Any suggestions would be much appreciated. nikita 30-08-2006, 05:43 PM All dogs do a collection service i send my cavalier spanial to them he always seems happy to go when they come to pick him up. No problems until this time. When I dropped them off they were all very nervous, tail between legs & looking at me like I was disowning them. I felt terrible leaving them. Hubby picked them up later & they were really quiet all night. They were really out of character. Very odd. Not at all happy, and cant help thinking that something must have happened last time they went, of course there is no point in asking the groomer as they are hardly likely to tell me now, if they were going to tell me they would have told me at the time. Casting my mind back I remember the furkids going overly bananas when we collected them too. So I need to find a groomer. I know we have a thread about them, but can you tell me who you use ? Anyone who you actually trust ? Moonbird 10-01-2007, 03:23 PM Following on from Lindseyw's post does anyone know of a good reasonably priced groomer in my area, or a good mobile groomer? carpetviper 10-01-2007, 03:29 PM Is it for the dogs to have a fur cut or do you have them mot'd kind of. My partner is a qualified dog groomer and you will find that most groomers will use a harness when grooming for the safety of the dog. If the dog is not harnessed there is a chance that it will try to jump from the table which could cause serious injury to the dog. Hope this helps:) Lotti 10-01-2007, 07:55 PM Sorry to sound thick... but how do you clip a dog that is wearing a harness? SaxonLeigh 11-01-2007, 02:17 PM i used to work at a dog groomers a few years ago, as much as i love dogs i had to leave. with out naming names i left this dog grooming place because of their treatment of the dogs. the dogs had one of those loop leads round their necks so the more they pulled the tigheter it got. when grooming them they told me i had to just pull the lumps out with the brush, i perfured to comb the knots out like i do with my own hair, it took a little longer but it dosent hurt the dog that way. they we quite nasty to the dogs & when the dogs started getting aggresive they would just mussel them & carry on. i would talk to the dogs to try & keep them as calm & relaxed as posible but the other groomers obviousley didnt care. they also didnt provide safty equipment for us, a apron would have been sufficient & a pair of goggles, the amount of hairs i pulled out of my eyes at the end of the day was unbelieveable & i was still pulling them out a month later, god know what it was like for those that had worked their longer. i left after a week telling them exactley why & that i would be reporting them to the rspca, which i did but dont know if they did anything about it. i thought about going to college & learning professionally & doing home grooming but i ended up in a boring office job, maybe one day i will go. Gemima 11-01-2007, 02:35 PM SaxonLeigh There are many horror stories from salons, which is why personally, I decided to go mobile. The owner can see how the dog is treated by me and I leave enough time between appointments to cater for difficult situations. Salons have a strict timescale and some run them like a production line and the dog suffers as a result. Dog Grooming takes a hell of a lot of patience and you need to be a dedicated dog lover to follow this profession - it is not easy and I can sympathise with the hair in the eyes, try hair in your knickers and bra too it does seem to get everywhere and the itch drives you crazy :hihi: In response to Lotti's question, a noose is used around the dogs neck which acts as a collar/lead, this is for safety reasons only and not to restrict the dogs movement (it is pretty useless for that purpose). Some Salons use a belly strap to keep the dog standing, I dont agree with this, as a dog should be allowed to sit when it can so therefore I dont use one. There used to a be a training course at Rother Valley College, but I believe they have stopped doing them now. If anyone is considering dog grooming as a business, then you would need to do it simply for the love of dogs. If you are treating the dogs compassionately, then there isnt much money in it. KATIEB_23 11-01-2007, 02:50 PM Gemima do you have a price list and details of services you can post on here? Gemima 11-01-2007, 02:58 PM Katieb-23 I have advertised in the services thread but I only cover parts of Sheffield as I am located Worksop / Sheffield border. e.g can travel to Beighton, Swallownest, Aston, Hackenthorpe areas. My Prices are based on dog size and time - but as a guide are as follows: Yorkie / Westie £15.00 Cocker £17 Springer £20 includes anal glands if needed, nails, ears etc. I do travel to a lady as far as Doncaster but because of the distance we have agreed a price of £25.00 for her cocker, which she is happy with, but some people arnt happy to pay that much. Oh right I'm nowhere near there. Just out of interest though, how does 'mobile grooming' work?! Do you use the client's bathroom? Gemima 12-01-2007, 10:40 PM Yes I do use the clients bathroom if they require the dog to be bathed, to be honest most of mine bath there own dogs before I come, apart from the odd pensioner who cant manage.:) I can offer the service if required. shihtzumad 13-01-2007, 09:39 PM I have a mobile dog groomer, but i have also been to a shop and sat and waited for both my dogs, if they are geniune they will let you, to be honest i prefer mine cut in the comfort and saftey of their home. Moonbird 17-01-2007, 01:21 PM Thank you all for your posts, i am not really to happy about the place on halifax rd as another forumer's dog came back upset and with a cut. I have tried yellow pages and found only one mobile groomer who's number i have kept for further reference, i have decided to try (think it is) A&M groomers at walkley, it was recommended by a few people and the lady sounded really nice, and seems to know what she is doing... so 1st of feb Lucy should be well pampered and come home looking like the queen (mother :hihi: ) that she is  pinklady 14-02-2007, 03:00 PM I have a King charles cavvie whos in dire need of a hair cut, my usual parlour shampoos her, clips her ears, claws, does her anal glands and cleans teeth, then i have her coat shaved very short all over, however, their next appointment is in 2 weeks and i could really do with having her done asap. does anyone know a local place (i live in thorpe hesley) or a mobile parlour that they would reccommend? He needs his feet trimming, face cutting due to his eye boggies, and his under belly shaving...maybe his bum too. I just want him to have a trim with out losing his coat, i've been told most groomers just shave all the fur off but i don't want that. Ishave my older dog myself but my Apso Marley is a little jumpy, tame but scared. Any recomendations ? Price's to ? Thank you  Strix 13-03-2007, 03:58 PM When you phone the groomers, ask if they do show cuts - coz the show dogs have to have a full coat  Gemima 13-03-2007, 04:47 PM A groomer should respect your wishes and if you dont want your dog clipped off then they should not do it!! Simply clipping off a coat is the easy option whilst some owners prefer this for maintainence reasons, there are some people, like yourself who want to keep the natural coat and are prepared to look after it. I would offer my services but you are too far away I am afraid. You would be better to have a mobile groomer though, so that you can supervise and get exactly want you want. Do not be afraid to tell them exactly what you require, after all It is your dog! ;) good luck shihtzumad 13-03-2007, 08:45 PM http://www.bugsie.co.uk/?refer=dogservices I saw this when i was out today. Lindseyw 23-03-2007, 10:35 PM So I guess some of you will remember I had an issue with our groomer, and needed to find a new one. Well I can highly recomend my new one. We had Gemima (Pride for Pets) come and do the girls, and she was amazing. I can honestly say they have never looked so good. She was very patient & careful & really took time to reassure them whe they got nervous. Thanks Gemima. :D :D :D Adz 24-03-2007, 02:29 AM I would also like to recommend Gemima. Albert did not object at all and i learnt alot during the time Gemima was with us. I was also impressed with how much care was taken and the job was not at all rushed, great value for the money to. Our dog groomers which we normally use cant get them in until end of next week. Anyone know of anyone that gives a 'proper' groom? I normally use one at commonside because they seem to spend alot of time with different blade combs on my dogs. I have never used a mobile groomer as I dont have any facilities for them to use here. If you take him up to A&M on Commonside, they've got a grooming table where they can put a sling under a dog's tummy if they need support or if they wriggle around whilst being groomed. anna293 05-08-2007, 11:23 PM Thanks Medusa ill give them a call tomorrow as we need to get him sorted. anna.x. pugzu71 09-08-2007, 01:09 PM hi, can anyone recommend a friendly, professional dog groomer they have used and been happy with? TattyBear 05-12-2007, 04:11 PM Do any dog groomers allow you to take a bitch that is in season? Thanks Gemima 05-12-2007, 04:26 PM Depends on the salon really. When I did my training at college they did allow dogs in the salon, both pregnant and in season. The dogs should not be able to have any contact with each other in a salon, but I wouldnt have a dog in season in my salon simply for the fact that it would stress out the entire males. TattyBear 05-12-2007, 04:40 PM yeah I suppose, plus she is bleeding so its not nice for them i guess. I just needed her doing quickly, I suppose I will just have to leave it. I want to get her hair cut as she is getting very hot and tangled in twiggs and heavy with muck when we go walking. I cut my older Lhasa dog myself but want a dog groomer to do my puppy. Can anyone recommend a professional groomer? I want someone who will take their time as Pepper can be a little timid and I don't want her scared. Can anyone recommend a groomer they have used please rather than just one they have heard of, Many thanks! If you are treating the dogs compassionately, then there isnt much money in it. hi my wife owns a dog grooming parlour called wendys dog grooming salon when we first opened ..we took in to mind with all horror stories so what we did is and its in process will be done in a week is have a internet cam so the person can watch there dog groomed from the comfort of there own home in real time if intrested further call 0114 2313100 willman 09-07-2008, 10:07 AM Threads merged as they appear amberlea 15-07-2008, 05:43 PM hiya it's called new mining mutts the number is 01142884555 xx teeny 16-07-2008, 10:40 AM we use Woodseats Super pet , yupin does a fab job of my king charles and sheltie. :)yes my dogs go to ALL DOGS every month and are well pampered, they will collect and return for you whenever you like and their driver is a lovely lady, they do a great job! willman 06-11-2008, 03:55 PM Any further posted unproven allegations will result in supension of accounts.
