Hello,

I was just wondering where I might find a spinner/weaver (I'm not actually sure which I need).

I am the owner of 2 smoyed dogs which have thick warm coats that drop shed regularly. I am told you can't beat a pair of samoyed gloves so I thought I'd give it a go.

So in conclusion, I need somebody who can turn a bag of dog fluff into something I can turn into gloves. Is this possible?

You should post this in the knitting group. There are several spinners who post in there, and there are also a couple of threads about turning dog fur into yarn too. Have a search :) .

Thanks for the tip.

I can't find much on search but that may be because I dont actually know what it is I'm looking for. Useless, eh!

I think what you're after is someone to point you in the right direction of someone who'll be able to spin your dog fur into yarn that'll be good for turning into a pair of gloves. I think for gloves, the best thing would be knitting, as weaving can produce quite dense blocks of fabric from which it might be quite difficult to make gloves. In contrast, knitting a pair of gloves would be really easy, once you know what thickness of yarn you'll have from the fur.

I know of three spinners in the knitting group (though there might be more): woolspinster, wool4brains and beansforyou. Can I suggest that you PM one or more of them and ask their advice? I'm sure they won't mind, and if they can't help they might be able to point you to someone who can.

I'll have a quick search and see if I can dig up the threads about knitting with dog fur yarn. Now I come to think of it, they were more about discussing the end product than the actual process, but I'll have a look anyway.

This (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=139596) is the thread I was thinking of. Post #16 has some interesting background information from the person who spun the water spaniel fur.

I think its amazing that the scarf and socks came from a dog!

I'm just going to chase my dogs up for a 'dontation' now. I'm so excited!
