When can they have pillows in their cots? My DD is 15 months old and she sleeps very soundly in our bed under a duvet and with her head on a pillow. I'm wondering about getting her her own pillow and duvet. I know the guidelines say they can have a duvet at 12 months, but wasn't sure about a pillow. I'm worried about any dangers with a pillow, but don't know if I'm being too over dramatic about it all. Also can you recommend any pillows and cot sized duvets?

My son had one from birth, medical reasons though

I added a pillow only a couple of months ago, my son being 2 and 1/2, but only because I read you were better off without one posture-wise, so I left it for ages. But he soooo loved snuggling under our quilt and pillow, I couldn't resist any longer and got him a quilt and pillow of his own - and he was so totally and adorably delighted, I'm thrilled I did. He snuggled in so happily every night (nightmares have since spoilt things a bit, but hey ho, lol).

I would have waited till 2 at the earliest, and still will for the next (if I get another) but I know plenty of people give them a lot sooner. I don't know what the professional opinion is...my preference is based on back health, not suffocation.

Hi,

I was going to get Libby a pillow ( she is 13 months) as she seems to like going to sleep snuggled up on something. She either lays on her cuddly toy or scrunches her quilt up & lays on that. I haven't looked yet but imagine that the toddler one's are much smaller & flatter than adult ones. Am going to have a look on the Mothercare website now.

DD1 was never bothered & was in a bed before she had one.

I was putting her in a growbag but I have just started using her quilt & put her in a fleecy sleep suit so she's not too cold when she kicks it off.

My boy got one at 2 and 1/2. For the same reasons as Cosy Wolf. And even then I just got him a diddy one from John Lewis's.

I've gone and done it and bought one from Dunlem Mill. She's sound a sleep on it now. She seems to like being on the pillow and snuggled under the duvet. I'm worried about the back posture thing now. I'll have to see how tonight goes and see if it is worth it.

Lol, don't give yourself one more to thing to worry about, I'm sure it will be fine. On the big scale of bad things, I think this is pretty low down :D
They look so cute snuggled up, don't they?

Doddle - am curious. Did you get a special baby pillow from Dunelm.

I googled it & they seem pretty pricey from Mothercare or one of the online sites.

I am gioin to get one from Libby. I am not too bothered about posture as she lays on her front & cuddles it. No matter how many times I turn her over she goes back to this.

I'm a born worrier. If it wasn't posture that replaced one of my worries, there would be something else. Probably, am I buying too much pink? As the duvet and pillow set is pink. :hihi:

The pillow I got from Dunlem Mill is one for a first bed and was £4.99. It's a little bit fluffy, but I'm sure with time it will go flatter.

Oh my god! Didn't you know that pink can seriously damage a child's development?? ...:D

Lol Cosywolf. When pg with dd1 I swore if I had a girl she was not being all pink & girly & just having dolls & girly thing. As if - she had tons of pink from day 1 & although had a mix of toys she loved dolls & all things girly.

She is now 7 & into Bratz along with my stepdaughter. I swore that wasn't going to happen too.

Libby will be the same with 2 older sisters to encourage her although we have bought her a garage for Xmas.

Thanks for the pillow tip - am off to Denelm this afternoon as I have been rolling a blanket up for Libby to use.
