We had to have my dads westie (millie) put to sleep last saturday:(

We are all still really upset, but whats worrying us is our dog ruby .
we didnt think millie and ruby were that close as they practically ignored each other most of the time, but ruby seems to be grieving!

She wont stay in my dads house she goes and sits crying by the door and has had one of millies toys that she is walking around with licking it and crying.
She went to sleep earlier so i took it way and she jumped up and started crying by the cupboard door, i just dont know what to do for the best she just seem really miserable.
We even bought her a favourite bone that usually last about 3 hours and she has hardly touched it
ANY IDEAS PLEASE XXX

Awwww- poor love. I don't know whether to call it grieving (that's a bit anthropomorphic as a term) but they definitely know that there's something wrong and it can be really hard wanting them to stop waiting for you to change it back.

Give her time and love- that's all you can do.

I think that dogs do grieve in their own way, they do actually form really close bonds with other dogs that they see regularly even though they may not seem to, their body language etc is not like ours and they say a lot to each other without making a sound.
When any of mine "go" I have noticed that the others go quiet for a time and go off their food sometimes, they just feel a bit worried and down and miss their friend.
I have found that if I treat them as normal and try to keep them busy they do cheer up after a week or so, I am sure that Ruby will too :)

Aw hun :(
Did she get to see Millie at all after she died? This often helps dogs get over the loss of a fellow canine.

I'd say try not to change the way you treat her - you'll probably find she's better if kept busy and so should be better on walks and when playing games so just try and keep her busy?

If you find she takes herself into a corner, just let her sleep or mope etc. I think it's one of those things that they have to get over in their own time.
