Just wanted to highlight the UBCD4Win (http://www.ubcd4win.com/) utility. It really is quite marvellous.

I've spent hours playing with BART PE trying to make myself a boot disk that contained all the free A/V tools... only for this, then that, then the other to not work properly. I've ended up with numerous discs that are all partially useful. I then tried UBCD4Win and had the disc i actually wanted within minutes!

I'd heard of UBCD4Win before, but dismissed it as some version of UBCD (http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/) that somehow ran inside Windows. I then realised it isn't really. It's a modified version of BART PE where all the plugins are up-to-date... and work properly. A very handy freebie to have.

I've had this for a while but haven't actually tried it yet. Just lazy I suppose as Acronis has a bootable CD that works fine on my system.

I eventually used it to image a eeepc, Hirens didn't want to know must be the USB drivers.

It certainly looks a goody - thanks, moonlight.

I was just about to download when I realised that you need a full copy of XP to complete the ISO properly, rather than the 'recovery' only job that most folk get these days?

Yes, you'll need an XP disc, or XP source files at least. I believe there are instructions on the site for "making" a suitable one if you don't have an actual XP CD...
