View Full Version : Delays at Malin Bridge
DannyBoy 03-02-2005, 10:49 Anyone know what was happening along New Loxley Road/Malin Bridge this morning? Almost made me and little one late for school - our 10-minute journey took 50 minutes. Often the traffic is banked up a bit from the tram/bus stop, sometimes as far back as St Polycarp's, but that doesn't usually cause more than about 10 minutes' delay. This morning the traffic didn't appear to be moving AT ALL for much of the time.
There are some roadworks, but they surely shouldn't cause such delays on their own.
Roadworks at bottom of Stannington Road, something to do with Yorkshire Water.
I know the work has to be done but it makes Malin Bridge a nightmare during the peak rush hours in a morning and at tea time

RoyalRegular 03-02-2005, 11:08 I was in the same boat this morning. It's always bad, but today I just turned round and did a run through all the back streets eventually joining Taplin road at the bottom of Oakland. There was a lorry, either broken down or involved in an accident, parked up with his flashers going outside the Shakey on Bradfield Road and a female copper trying to direct things.
Nuff said.

I think they're upgrading sewers and there has also been some test bores drilled ready for the new apartment block that is going to be built.
Perhaps the major cause of delay was people driving their kids to school.

There's quite often a lorry parked there delivering beer at busy times. It makes me soooo cross! Do you think this was it or had something else hapenned?
K x
It looked to me like the lorry's back axle had collapsed or something. It was definately this that was holding up the traffic though. Worst I've ever seen it.
To be fair they do try to time their deliveries there outside of peak hours. I think the Shakey has a delivery every Monday morning at about 06:30 (possibly another one during the week as well) but I've not seen them try to deliver at 'busy' times.
delaiverys to shakey r bout 630 in morning as hotphil says and also on fridays at same time use to work there so had to be up rather early on delivery days

There was a Chinook [sp?] chopper flying up Loxley valley about 3.30 pm today looking as if it was going to put down in Low Bradfield, - it might get a bit hairy though if we all took that route to avoid the school run :)

Maybe that's the only way they can get to school in a morning?

A 10 minute car journey along New Loxley Road at school time is about 400 yards, afaik.

When there have been lanes closed and traffic light systems installed I think these are probably having a bigger impact on traffic at the moment than the usual school run.
