View Full Version : Orange Broadband
simondjuk 30-11-2007, 12:29 Hey all
Im wanting some genuine opinions on Orange Broadband.
At the moment we have BT Broadband and im out of contract so im looking into changing to another provider. Currently I have 2mb with a 6Gb recommended usage with BT which costs just over £20 a month
The packages ive been informed about are BT with up to 8mb and unlimited downloads for £23 per month and Orange with up to 4.5mb (line tested for result) and unlimited downloads for £15 a month which also includes the line rental. I get it at £15 as a special offer too as im on contract mobile with Orange.
Looking at the above, id go for the Orange package, because its cheaper but the speed is slower (not really much of an issue though)
My question therefore is this: are Orange any good for Broadband or shall I stick with BT and try and get a better deal?
I would appreciate only genuine comments.
Thanks
It's pretty good IMO.
I've been with them on and off since the Freeserve days, and have never had many if any problems.
I rang them up a few weeks back to change to cheaper Plusnet though (at the time I was paying £18 a month for 2 Mb, Plusnet offered 8 Mb for a tenner), and they upgraded me to 8 Mb for a reduced price of £12.99 a month, with 3 months free.
Dunno know much about the Orange setup, but we have just moved and decided to get the whole Sky 'speak surf talk' package, was gonna cost us around £35, phoned BT to tell 'em to cancel my broadband as I was gonna go with Sky, they then offered me BT Total Broadband Option 3, 8MB download speeds, unlimited download, all for £19.99 guaranteed for 12 months, 25% off all calls to mobile numbers, a free V-Box and the home hub.
Not bad I thought.

If Orange reckon you only get 4.5mbps then i'm fairly confident that that's about what you'd get with BT too. Both of them will be "upto 8mbps" packages - it just looks as though Orange have told you what you're likely to get.

Cenobite 30-11-2007, 16:44 Orange's unlimited downloads equate to.A fair usage policy of 40gb a month and the most horrendous customer service(offshore) and support ever.Thats why they won this years watchdog award of.Worst isp of the year.

Actually, the customer service helpdesk is based in Rotherham, or so I've been told, when I rang up to try and change from them to Plusnet recently (but was persuaded to stay at a reduced rate free for 3 months).

When I get my Numbers I'm transfering to ' PlusNet '.
Cenobite 30-11-2007, 20:52 That is true. The support for billing and mac codes etc are in the uk.wanadoo were great until they changed to orange .Getting tech support for problems in this country is or was ni on impossible. But like with every Isp some have problems and others don't.

i am currently battling with orange to get my services connected in full, the indian support staff, i can barely understand what they are talking about and have to ask three times. then theres the matter of the majority of orange staff bieng outsourced call centres and not very intelligent in the computer departments and only follow what is written in front of them on a screen script. then there is the rudeness of the middlesbro call centre who quote thier t&c WRONGLY and try to scare you by having to pay the remainder of the account, in my case £345, but if you really want to go with them the internet for me has been fairly good.
Gavbriggs 01-12-2007, 14:16 guess what, after bieing on the phone to india and also passed on to uk i have managed to waste 45 minutes of my life i will never see again! i have been escalated again, the nice guy said he would wave the cancellation fee if i wanted to cancel, i informed him the cancellation fee doesn't apply as per orange's t&c he read along with me and i felt the wind fall from his sales, i also pointed out his company are in breach of thier own t&c and possibly the sale of goods act he sort of sat up and listened. still got nowt sorted tho!
Gaybriggs - exactly what problem are you having....
Is modem connected to PC or to a router?
Any lights on the modem?
What happens if you tell the PC to try and connect? Any error messages?
Albert T Smith 01-12-2007, 20:18 A advert for ' Orange BroadBand '.
Since switching to the Forum now, Just to get here.
I have had to re-connect my BroadBand service five times.
Tiscali gets my
Been with'em now since June and not once have I lost connection, customer services aren't great but then, who's are...?
They're honest about what you'll get too, Orange are a no, no for me...if you can be bothered to search (I can't) I have a post/thread somewhere back in June about them ripping me off...never go anywhere near them again...
davedrfc 01-12-2007, 23:19 Never had a problem with my Orange Broadband, and as I have my mobile phone with them I get the unlimited up to 8 meg package for a fiver a month.
Can't complain at all, and never had any problems with them even when moving house. Whenever I need to ring them its free off my mobile, and everything is always dealt with very quickly. I usually find its somebody Scottish I speak to whenever I need to ring Orange, whether its mobile or broadband related.
sallonoroff 03-12-2007, 15:37 When i used to have to deal with Orange (for mobiles) i can't think of an occasion when i wasn't put through to someone in the North-East... Darlington i think.
When i used to have to deal with Freeserve/Wanadoo (now "Orange" - for t'internet) i was recall always talking to people in the UK. Mind, i was always quick since they were charging 50p/min for the privilege.
I would be disappointed if they've moved all those jobs out to India...

Im with Orange and its fine, I have teh 8mb service and download speeds are ok, I can game on it. The only bad thing is that it does drop alot (not the wireless) and it did take Orange a whole month to get me online. Well i am only paying £5 a month.
davedrfc 07-12-2007, 13:04 Since I defended Orange on this thread had nothing but problems! Sod's Law! lol obviously didn't touch any wood at the time...
Anyway, our internet now works fine during the day but come 5pm it becomes desperately slow and constantly disconnects. I'm hoping its just some work they are doing or something but if it hasn't improved by next week I shall be on the phone!
Anyone else having this problem? I'm in S2.
