hi m8

peer to peer is like;
limewire
soulseek
emule
bit torrents
things like this

im on upto 2meg with virgin media and i use emule to download my items,
mine is also very slow as mine downloads roughly at 3-9 kbs which is very very poor
only thing i use to get quicker downloads on my emule is i us a connection crack on emule which lets me download at full speed while it sets the up-load to a max limit of 10kbs,

since i have installed this connection crack i now get 40-90 kbs which is still slow but it beats 3-9 kbs

If your using p2p just check how many uploads you are alowing for each person if any that is. AOL always blame p2p and avg / avast ect there good at that.

I'm on a relatively slow line at home, it's only half meg, but I generally get full speed on it so I'm getting what I pay for and it does what I need

what I think should happen for people who are victims of "up to" is this

you have a contract rated "up to" the maximum speed of the line and this sets the maximum amount you can pay per month

but what you actually pay is based on the average actual speed you achieve during the month

so if you are on an 8Mb contract and only get 2Mb on average you only pay a quarter of the monthly rate, if you average 4Mb you pay half and so on

so it's in the interests of the ISP's to get off their *rses and do something about giving you your maximum speed all the time

as it is they are getting money for old rope because of the "up to" clause

so you'd end up paying about a tenth to a sixteenth of your current monthly payment, were I in charge, and you'd have engineers crawling over every inch of cable between me and you until I got the full monthly payment you got your full 2Mb :D

I like it. A wholly sensible idea.

The only problem is, ISPs would just put up the price of the package.

Sometimes there's not a lot they can do... especially if they're just using BT's network.

Thank my lucky stars my P2P days are over, shaping is all ISP's future! I'm glad i use Usenet the only noticable drop in bandwidth is @ around 6pm and that's around 1-2% of my max bandwidth i guess everyone is ebaying when getting home from work. :)
