View Full Version : Where is the plastic spoon?!

I have a very important question that I'm sure you late night Forum Folk can help me answer...

I haven't bought any liquid medicine for a while, but I bought some cough medicine yesterday. It said to take 10ml at a time, so I looked in the box for the measuring spoon, and  there wasn't one!!

I rememeber when I was little and had medicine, it came with a little, short-handled, plastic, semi-transparent spoon thingy, that was always re-used by my mum as a yoghurt spoon in school lunchboxes.

What is happening?! Where is my spoon?! :( Is it only kids medicines that you get them with? Or have they just stopped making them? Why, oh why?!

So, as you can see, this is a matter of some urgency. I now face a somewhat sleepless might worrying about it.... does everyone else remember these spoons?!

I remember those things...used to be dosed up with something called "Penbritten" I think...although that was many years ago and I probably don't recall the name all that well.

Plastic spoons still come with some over the counter medicines otherwise just ask for one at the chemist but do you really need one when a teaspoon = 5ml ?

plastic spoons are 5ml too... and those double ended ones are 5ml and 2.5ml... double ended plastic spoons are the best :D

just in case you havn't managed to find a lil plastic spoon yet, an average teaspoon is 5ml, a desert spoon is 10ml and a tablespoon is 15ml :D

Yep that would be because gripe water is alcohol!

I know last time I bought cough medicine, I got it at boots and just asked for one of the measuring spoons and (after a few tuts and sighs) the pharmacist just gave me one.

They're totally a different size from kitchen teaspoons.

I occasionally take gaviscon and am told to take 4 teaspoons full each dose. I tend to just gulp down a mouthful or two from the bottle. <slaps wrist>

I am afraid that I stole all your spoons. I no longer have a job because it is impossible to get all the spoons and keep a job, i don't need one anyway cos i live in a little house that i made of all the spoons. My friends think i need help but the spoons are my new friends now and they tell me that what i am doing isn't wrong and i believe them.

Well the spoons never lie.
They are the an all knowing, all seeing source of great knowledge. I am very jealous of your house of spoons, I may build myself a house of forks. I will not be able to eat cough medicine or soup though.

We have a drawer full of those plastic cups that come with benylin4flu.

Why do they only hold 15ml of gunge, when you are supposed to take 20ml?

So I should have invested in some superior cough medicine, rather than Boots own that was on special offer at 99p... next time! I will check all boxes before buying to make sure spoon is included.

It does seem a pit pointless to have a spoon that is the wrong size though. You'd think that even a 10ml spoon would be better, so you can take two spoonfulls... Oh dear.

I like soup. I would miss it if I lived in a house of forks. I would have to have cup-a-soup instead.

Beckyaa,

Surely you could only have cup-a-soup if you lived in a house of cups...

Oh dear, you are right Kristian, that is a good point. The clue was in the name really wasn't it?!
Maybe I will live in a house made of all kinds of crockery and cutlery (except spoons because missrabbit has them all).

Thankyou for everyones advice about spoon sizes - I eventually found a set of baking measuring spoons that did the job admirably.

Welcome Torn!

Yes, maybe it was just bad luck, but the thought of a crockery house (plastic or otherwise!) has cheered me up considerably!
