Hi, Im looking for some advise on the best route to the train station from Penistone Road. I havent ventured onto the new ring road as such and I have looked at the map on the council website but its confusing.

From Penistone Rd the council map says its two way traffic but then stops being two way at J8 corporation st. Where do I go then, do I go along Gibraltar street ?? I cant see how to get to the mad island from there and onto the train station?? On the council map you can go along Shalesmoor to town but then after Gib St its one way away from town, I can't see a way through?

I can go down Burton Road, down to Cutlars Gate, down the Parkway (I think!!!!!) to the mad island and onto the train station.

Please let me know the best way. I need to catch a train at rush hour in the morning. How long should I expect this to take now a days. (I used to give 30 mins before the train). Is this area gridlocked in the mornings ????

Thanks if you can help.

Can't you go by tram from Hillsborough?

I could, and believe me I would as it would be easier but I need the car to transport kids from various locations before and after my train which is impossible on public transport. The places I have to go cant be connected in the timescales I have.

Surely from Penistone Road you'd still use the 'old' section of the ring road? Upper Hanover Street/University/St Mary's Gate, then follow the signs to the station car park? So probably no need to change your 30 minutes allowance?

No problem getting into the car park in the morning, but expect lllllloooooonnnnnnnggggg delays if you return in the evening!

I presume by mad island you mean Park Square. You can drop down from Cutlers Gate onto the end of the parkway then along Sheaf Street. To get to the station you have to turn off by the multi storey car park (this is the parking for the station). The traffic at peak times is usually manic so give yourself an hour at least, better to be too early.

Thanks. I think I'll try St Mary's gate route tomorrow. I will give at least an hour. Im not even going to attempt Cutlers Gate/mad island (yep, park square), the map on the council website was too confusing.

If you can afford it think your best bet is a taxi, easier and less stress than trying to get there yourself

We picked someone up from the station on Tuesday morning at 9:30. From Parkside road in Hillsbro via University square and St Mary's it took 30 minutes. Hanover Way was the slowest bit, you should be safe with an hour.
