Everyone's favourate bus company is tonight celebrating after it's bus timetable has been awarded this year's Booker Prize for Fiction.

The judges were especially impressed with the great imagianation shown within this fine publication which they felt held a special sureal and other-worldly quality.

One judge said:

"This is a marvalous work of fiction. It's genius is that it is set in a parallel universe inhabited by buses and bus drivers that arrive regually and on time. I just don't know how they think these things up".

Gary Nolan, haed of FSY said:

"We are truely honoured to receive this award and the large cheque that comes with it. I shall use this money wisely to increase my already large bonus and buy a new car".

Well done First.

This is a brilliant example of the small minded out of touch, uninformed attitude of some users of SF :

Gary Nolan as not been the head of FSY for around 18 months he went to stagecoach - there was a thread on this forum :

Actualy thinking about it,if you take the OP's past posts about how to attract women/get a girlfriend, coupled with an un healthy fascination with Emma Bunton throw in a few bus related items and snippets of stuff about de-regulation,,,,I see a pattern here.

Do you by any chance have a thermos flask and hang around Interchanges with a notepad:hihi:just wondered like

Oh by the way did anybody know that the fares are going up again in january?it's getting to that time of year again where shareholders/directors are thinking about pay rises for the staff & to top it off another hike in prices come april :shakes: They've taken away what little they could offer (£1 fares mon - thurs 7pm till 11pm) & other offers they had on "tight wads".

Just thought i'd let you all know in advance.

And just for everyone's benefit Mark1971, how do you know so much?

No offence, but in my experience comments like that come from a canteen and are far from facts. And trust me, having worked in the industry for a long time (not in Sheffield recently though) i've heard them all.

Perhaps you could enlighten us as to which offers have gone (it was £1 on the last evening bus i used the other night) and how you can be so sure that fares change in January and April.

Sounds like idle gossip designed to excite people to me.

I questioned the guy who's job it is to place the promotions to buses as to why he was taking the £1 fare stickers from the windscreens & the £3 day saver/rider from the windows & he turned round & said because the fares are going up in january,i turned round & said your not serious!his reply was thats what my gaffer told me why do you think i'm taking down the promotions? He also said that the fares will probably rise again in april, now take that as idle gossip if you want but i'm only posting what i've been told by somebody in the know.

I haven't caught a bus in roughly 2 years due to First being, well lets be honest, absoltutely dreadful. I put this aside at the weekend, looked up the timetable on the internet, walkled down to my local bus stop and guess what? Correct, the bus never turned up. Obviously, i'm now back to using my car.

(To the tune of The Red Flag)

The people's bus is white and pink,
it's often late it sometimes stinks,
it smells of fags,
and chips and beer,
we clean it out,
once a year

Chorus

Don't catch a bus,
don't make a fuss,
we're all on strike,
there is no bus.

The driver turns up very late,
he look a mess,
a dreadful state,
he has not shaved,
for near a week,
his shirt is stained,
his trousers wreak,

(Chorus)

The frequency is down by half,
the seats are fine if you're a dwarf,
the seats are made,
for those who're small,
they're bleedin hard,
and stained an all

(Chorus)

I'm not saying that he doesn't know something, but hell i find it unlikely that he'd be so clued up as to know the intimate secrets of the world.

And as for Slimsid - god you are almost depressingly pathetically predictable. Don't you have something better to do with your days. If you hate First so much, don't use them - simple really.

I am not sure about First in Sheffield but First Bristol are raising the fares in January by about 20p per fare according to the local press in Bristol and the natives are not happy about this and the service in general.
So that probably means they will up them in South Yorks by the same or even more

very funny OP.

what can be done about first, has anyone got any ideas? it's no use sitting around moaning, something has to be done about this. i can no longer rely on a bus to get me into town. 4 out of 5 times i go for a 20 or 20A it doesn't turn up or turns up at least 10 minutes late. this is just not acceptable. my partner waited for a bus for 30 minutes this morning....at rush hour when they're scheduled regularly.

has anyone thought of people clubbing together to actually take some action about the fact that one of sheffield's main infrastructures is so poorly lettting the city down?

what point is there in spending millions to make the city centre look fantastic if the citizens of the city can't get from A to B on the city's public transport system?

first are turning sheffield into a laughing stock and no-one seems to care...

Glad to see the engineering department is not sitting around endulging in idle chit chat, maybe the stickers are required to hold the buses together.

Yes the drivers are getting a pay rise in april, but this is part of the last 3 year pay deal.
The stickers could be removed due to vehicles being transfered to Rotherham maybe:hihi:
The fares are up for review in January (as always),knowing how First operate (or not in some cases) its unlikey that such information would filter down to the cheif sticker remover.
There is more cloak and dagger stuff going on there than a bucket of cloak and daggers on planet cloak and dagger on national cloak and dagger day.

Oh and tell the sticker guy hes missed some as some of the buses still dislpay the £1 fare stickers and £3 ones too.
