Anyone do this commute for work?

I have the chance of a job just off junction 26 and live near junction 32 in sheffield. What is the journey time like at about 8am in the morning?

Thanks

Definately set off a good hour earlier..the M1 South is a nightmare.

I agree, the monday morning and friday evening journeys are a nightmare.
Take a flask and a book to read whilst your stuck in the traffic- I did part of this journey for six years and it isn't getting any better!

Prob if you live near the Motorway and work near the Motorway it wont be too bad but you'll be looking to change your job within two years.

Between junction 28 and 26 seems to be a hotspot for accidents as well so you might want to factor that into your journey time

I currently commute from 31 down to Chesterfield (29) and on a good day if I leave at 7am I can have a reasonably clear run and do the motorway bit in about 20 minutes.

However. It's hardly ever a clear run, and if I left any later then it can take the best part of an hour to crawl down to 29. Even if there is some miracle and I get to my exit ok, then the one after *always* has a queue developing, which I imagine probably continues down to Nottingham.

So I don't think it'd be much fun, and if you want to get to work for 9 I think you'd need to leave a lot before 8.

Plus right now there's roadworks at your bit.

Oh, and Monday morning is completed jammed the whole way. Same with Friday on the way back.

Hello,

I commute from Sheffiled to Nottingham daily and have done for a year now.

I started a simlar thread on here when i was thinking about taking this job.

Today Ididn't leave Sheff (I live right near the centre) until 8.15ish and signed in at work (right in the centre of Nottm) at 9.50.

I have to say the drive in the summar is far, far better than it is at this time of year!!! though last friday is only took me an hour to get home...i was a happy bunny:)

The journey taskes between 1hr and 2 hrs...ave. over the summer being 1hr10 and at this time of year...1hr40

I am lucky as I have flexi.

The route I take is through Chesterfield to meet the M1 at J29, then I come off at J26 and crawl through Nottingham...I've got to say this is the worse end of the run but if you are working just off the junction you should be fine. The motorway section, when things are running well takes 10-15mins...can take up to 30 though...if its really bad.

I'm used the the commute now, have kind of accpeted it as part of my working day and I'll be working here for at least another 18months.

Put it this way....its barable but i wouldn't travel any further, and I'm sure I'll enjoy the change when/if I get a job closer to home...maybe around Chesterfield hopefully. I'm looking forward to the 'festive season' being over and done with as the traffic will begin to calm again straight away....though I guess the motorway widening (between J28 and J25 is it?) will soon have its effects on my journey.

I have to travel into a part of Nottingham twice a month and come off at J25 - I go on at J29 (easier from S8).

I usually leave at 8am (ish) and am normally there for about 9.20 - yes it can be a problem if there's an accident but most of the journeys I've had have been fine - it's coming home when I tend to get the problems

I used to do Mosborough to Tamworth 99-01, then Mosborough to J24 in 02 for about 6 months - It was fine when you got a good run, but you need to expect a couple or three bad trips a week, and a really nasty one at least once a fortnight...

The M1 widening works have also started this month, so expect trouble with them for the next three years - the hard shoulder will probably be coned off, so if there is an accident or breakdown, it's a tad worse that usual :¬(

Just make sure the new place is happy with you arriving at unrelable times and is happy for you to work at home on the really bad day when you haven't got past J28 by 10am ;¬)

Whats the job out of interest ?

I've worked at beeston for ten years and commute from sheffield J30 to J26. Average 45 mins to 1.15. Yes had much longer journey times but leaving at eight is the worst time. J30 to 26 takes me 20 to 30 mins leaving at 7.15

I don't work in Nottingham but do have clients - I sometimes do the A57 and then A614 or the A57 then the A60. Not much in it but you don't get the thrice weekly hold ups and accidents etc... getting home is always better using this route.
