View Full Version : Christmas Get together/Pub Meet Tuesday 11th December

Some of the regulars have asked me to arrange a night out for Christmas. So as we've not had a straight forward pub meet for a while, and seeing as we ought to be getting in to the spirit of the time of year too, how about a pub meet at one of our favourite old locations, the Hillsborough Hotel on 13th December?
We've chosen this particular pub cos some of us feel that it's an ideal place for a Group meet due to its size, it having a good choice of real ales, and also because it's easy to get to, having good parking and being situated on the tram route.
I know the main idea of the meet is to have a get together for Christmas, but it would be nice also for people to come along with any ideas for what they would like to do next year, and have a good discussion about what we've enjoyed or not enjoyed in 2007, and what we can do in 2008, both walking wise and socially.
Anyone who has never been on a walk, and fancies coming to this meet will of course be welcome to do so.

Sounds good to me. Is the Hillsborough Hotel the one where we started our pub crawl - sorry, I mean evening walk - in September?

Scoobz, you've put Tuesday 13 December in the title of this thread but the 13th is Thursday. Tuesday's the 11th. So which is it?

Oops, sorry, I meant Tuesday the 11th ;)
And yes, it was the place that we started the evening walk :D
Not going to waste valuable drinking time on this occasion though, it's a drinks meet this one, not a drinks and walk meet!

I've changed the date in the title now. Eh, mebee that Scoobz has been sampling the beers already! ;)

I'm hoping to be along for this one. Who knows, I might even walk there... well, to the tramstop anyway. :D

What sort of time are you thinking of? I should be able to pop along briefly, if only to buy you that pint I owe you Scoobz.

Ermmm......start early, finish late (I think!)
You owe me a pint Godzilla???? Checked my debtors book, and can't seem to find you in there, but no matter, if you say you do, I'll go along with that!
Should be there from 8 onwards I would have thought. Be nice to see you (and Saul!)
See you soon
Steve

Canada Man and I will be dropping by as well, although I've got a late day in Rotherham and Canada Man's got footy so we'll probably get there around 9 I should imagine.

I have been told I HAVE to go to this so ive got no choice but to see you all there! :hihi:

Are we staying in the same pub all night? If so i will book a taxi in good time as they are busy this time of year.

The intention is to stay there all night, unless you want to go for a wander :o
What's this rant about "being told I have to come"? Sometimes you've just got to take advice from someone who knows best you know :P and anyway, have you had a better offer for the evening yet?

Unfortunately this clashes with an office booze up - so I'm going to miss this - unless our paths cross in same pub.

Won't be coming tonight, I'm afraid. Got the cold/cough bug that's going around. Feel like death warmed up.

Really enjoyed the evening, thanks Scoobz! We all did really well in the pub quiz - we were pipped at the post by only 1 point! - & we didn't even cheat via texting - did we Nooka??!!
The roast potatoes were nice too!
Nice to meet you at last Saul - heard a lot about you:thumbsup:
hope you get better Billysmum:gag:
nice to see mr linchpin with a stick rather than crutches - good progress:)

Yeah it was nice to have a chinwag in a good old-fashioned kind of pub which offers a great choice of beers. Attempted to test them all, but the lure of the Erdinger was too strong and I was more than happy to renew an old friendship with it by the end of the night!
Hey and didnt we do well in the pub quiz? 18/20 for people who are more used to thinking on their feet aint bad is it?

Even I got the American based question! But I'm afraid my knowledge stopped there. Proof that the citizenship exam doesn't teach you anything useful!
Wish I could have stayed longer, but glad I made it at all!

I had a good evening it was nice to see everyone but a pity people were missing due to having flus and colds. Hope you are all feeling better soon!

Dunno what you mean? I always text my mum in the evening to ask about WW1 navel battles doesnt everyone? And do you know something spooky, she said she knew the answer because her Uncle Joe died in that battle! He was only 17 years old! God bless you Uncle Joe!

Don't know what kind of bug I've had but it really knocked me for six, very unusual for me but thankfully just about recovering now.

Very sorry to have missed Tuesday night, especially as I probably won't see people until after Christmas now.

Glad to hear you're back on your feet PW, hopefully you can stay that way! Watch out for a couple of walks being posted before the end of the year, you never know, you might just be able to squeeze one in with a bit of luck!
