I used to read The Beano and Warlord. Actually bought a Warlord off of eBay the other day and very fond memories it brought back, jumpers for goal posts etc...

Beano and Dandy.
My mates dad was the spitting image of Desperate Dan and i would call him that when we argued.
He hated it and we always finished up scrapping.

Roy of the Rovers. Used to read it at school when I was kept in during "inside breaks" due to rain.

All the marvel stuff especially Spiderman, Dare Devil, Ghost Rider, X-Men. Also some 2000AD. I didn't really go for the beano and dandy too much. I was/am way to warped and sadistic :)

Beano mainly - even sad enough to have a collection of annuals, which I now hunt for at car boot sales  My master plan is to sell them when I'm 65 and retire on the proceeds - Sotherbys here I come... :)

I always read the Dandy and Beano when my Mother could afford them, one of my favourite characters was desperate Dan and his cow pie.

Dandy, I had a big pile (well big when I was a kid) and kept em at the side of my bed. Unfortunately they got paper mites so my other made me throw em away!!!

The Beano, 2000 AD, The Dark Knight, and any other Batman comics. Also Graphic Novels, and some Manga. I miss reading them, really! Still trying to get hold of the original Japanese language Akira comic books though, volumes 1, 6, 7 & 8.

2000AD (back when it *was* something)
Deadline

also comic books like:
Lucky Luke
Marsupilami
Tintin
Gustav

Now: Cerebus
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
V is for Vendetta (again and again and again - possibly the best ever comic book, sorry 'graphic novel')

I've still not got round to reading V for Vendetta - need to get that sorted. Have you read Watchmen too?

I have, and I know plenty of people who would 'rate' it over V for vendetta. Both are masterworks IMO.

Alan Moore - He knows the score.

Beano, Dandy, Rover, and another that I cannot remember. Didn't get them avery week cos we couldn't afford them. Well, my dad couldn't, as I didn't contribute much to the household income.

Favourite character? Dennis the Menace of course, and was tagged for years.

Oh I've just read the first 'League of Extraordinary Gentleman'. I really enjoyed it...and the latest 'Lucifer'. (Amazon is a dangerous web site :) )

Have to disagree about 'V for Vendetta' (even though it is fantastic and certainly in my top 5). My vote would be for Neil Gaimans 'The Sandman' as best ever comic book *slap* ..er graphic novel.

Just about to embark on reading the first couple of 'The Invisibles'

I do need to get hold of some Cerebus though - I've heard that it's very good.

I was collecting the whole thing, but the comic shop couldn't get any more in after Book 7.

It's great, if you like hard as nails Aardvarks, the dumbest superhero in the world, Oscar Wilde, Groucho Mark, Mick and Keef, they all make appearances.

What's really interesting is that the first book starts off looking really ropey; the author (who did everything, script, art, backgrounds) was only 17 when he started it. As the book(s) progress the artwork and writing gradually settle into a lucid and compelling monochrome style. Sometimes there are many pages without dialogue, just dark chiaroscuro images that draw you in and on.

OK, Sandman is good, but somehow me and Neil Gaiman never clicked - it's all too heavily laden and his other stuff suffers heavily from over exposition. (e.g Neverwhere). I liked his collection of short stories mind.

What I really love about V for Vendetta, apart from the dark, high tension storyline and the spare, defined style, is the colour - it's so very British somehow, redolent of fader posters in shop windows, aged paint on the pier and cheap colour comics printed on grey bogpaper. Another thing it evokes is 'The Fifties' somehow, it's all got a slightly sickly yellow caste to it.

Hmm. I should probably read some more novels soon, I seem to be out of the habit.
