Hi Steve
I saw Sonbae Taekwondo mentioned above in the Sheffield Star, they had been in a competition for Wako Kickboxing, it sounded like a good club to me. I suppose it depends what kind of Martial Art you are interested in?
Hope this helps you.

Im sure i reffed a few fighters from such a club at the same tournament, do they do Light Continuous fighting? Im pretty sure one of their girl fighters was a pretty flashy kicker.
Interesting indeed.
What is their website?
superstar1 03-12-2007, 00:21 Hi Stevebannerm,
Living at owlthorpe the best place to go would be Master Js Kickboxing i am sure they also do tae kwan do as well, (check his web site you'll find it on a previous post).
Be carefull of clubs and instructors that haven't actually trained in a traditional martial art as you can't always be sure wher they got their qualifications, I have readon other MA forums that even some of the bigger Kickboxing Associations don't realy check out the instructors grades they just want members !
Good luck
Hi chefkicker
the website for Sonbae is sonbaetkd.co.nr And I've heard that they do light continuous and point stop.
superstar1 could you tell me what association masterj trains with, how many competitions his club has entered and what results his team got recently as I'm also considering which club to join.
which clubs is it you are talking about that don't have qualified instructors? I don't want to train under someone who isn't qualified.

I agree - I know of a person who is a member of a big traditional group who, unbeknownst to the organisation, was claiming to be a 5th dan, and charging money accordingly, when he had only just got his brown belt.
Apparently he was severly told off when the organisation found out, but he's still a member.

Hmm , Me thinks that 'billbob' has forgotten he is a member of this club. Looking at the website, me also thinks that their fighters need some training in holding a guard up! But as the saying goes, every dog has his day.
Regarding the questions asked, I have had my academy running professionally now for nearly year (training out of sports centres, church halls and schools etc for the last 17 years) and so preparing my students carefully and training them upto a standard that I think they will be ready.
The instuctors at your club billbob, if indeed you remember its your club, know me well and still teach what I taught them.

How does training in a traditional martial art make someone more qualified to teach kickboxing? Personally I wouldn't want some "black belt" who's never been hit to be teaching me over a bloke who's never had a coloured belt in his life but has a respectable pro fight record...

Seems like Carcass understands kickboxing more than mr "superstar1" does.
Thats ok Carcass you are good for something :hihi:
Only joking mate , we love you really.

I have to say that I didn't really feel that this post answered any of my questions, I'm sorry Masterj but I won't be joining your club as you seem to have labelled me without even knowing me.
As stated on my previous message I heard about their club through the Sheffield Star which posted an article on them, I have been to see them training and they seem to be doing a good job so I think I shall be joining Sonbae. But thanks for replying to my earlier message.

That's alright pal, I'm sure that he's crying great big hot tears of inconsolable lament right now.

Shotokan! It was a long long time ago but the guy is still training with the same organisation (with an appropriatte grade now) - not in Sheffield but the surrounding area so I won't use his name. BUT I was quite discusted when I heard it.

The AFK cornerman Andy LAcey does a bit with Sonbae TKD as they are near to his house. Andy says that Ade and Jamie who teach there are really nice guys and good instructors.
If Big Andy says that then id take his word for it. He is a credible martial artist and Former world class full contact fighter.
chefkicker 07-01-2008, 15:00 Im going to be meeting the Sonbae TKD instructor tonight. Ive heard lots of nice things about him from friends.
Looking forward to it.
