Being a single girlie like myself, I'm not much looking forward to the prospect of valentine's day on my own but thought I would see what you more lucky in love chaps and chapesses are up to to celebrate???

:P There is a Shef Forum singles night on the 10th Feb at Trippets :D

I have a doctors appointment on the 14th, following that I'm going to sitting in my room surrounded my chocolate, sobbing pitifully and re-enancting the 'All by Myself' singalong scene from Bridget Jones, complete with wine bottle microphone.

Failing that I shall turn my coffee table upside down, pretend its a boat and go sailing.

I am concerned about the alsation eating incidents but I think I will be doing pretty much the same things of wallowing with chocolates and a big bottle of wine!

I'm not sure that there has been one before...I think the 10th will be the first. There are regular forum meet ups (Trippets wine bar, tonight at 8pm if you fancy it :P). There seems to be a pretty wide range of ages on here.

My 11 yr old daughter is going to an Anti-Valentines party at her friends house where all the girls who don't have boyfriends will gather together watch sloppy films and eat their body weight in chocolate. My 15 old daughter has very stupidly (we thought) dumped the latest boyfriend so finds herself alarmingly single as the day approaches. There is a cast waiting in the wings tho so that single state may still yet change.

Me? Have had my fair share of valentines evenings in the past so am quite happy in my comfortable single state to cuddle up in front of the tv with a hot curry and a strong red and two besotted pooches for company. Blissssss!!! and neither of them will be expecting to get me into bed afterwards LOL!! ;)

When I was that age 90% of girls didn't go anywhere near boys, or want to.

I like the sound of the anti-valentines party - think your daughter has got the right idea.

I've done valentines as a singleton and smug couple, and either way it's crap.

If your in a couple the pressure is on to make it a 'special day' so you end up going out for a meal, and because everyone else has had the same idea you're herded into the resteraunt, plonked at a candlelit table surrounded by other couples in a similar situation, and then supposed to conjour up romance on demand until they give you the bill and chuck you out.

If you're single you spend the entire day fending of questions from annoying coupled up friends about how many cards you got (none), and scowling at people holding hands in the street.

I can't stand doomsday (a.k.a. Valentines day).

As far as I see it, it basically it falls one of 2 ways:

1) You're in a relationship - if that's the case everyday should be valentines day, why only celebrate your partner and the love you share on that one day and not the other 360 odd? :loopy:

2) You're not in a relationship (like me :( ) - spend all day being reminded of how incredibly alone you are and how much you miss all those amazing things about being in love....

V'tines day is a Monday so I will probably be at work wishing it was still the weekend and trying to smile nicely at all the luveydovy couples when I'm really jeolous haha!

I'll be spending valentines day this year away from it all, on a mountaineering holiday.

Y'see if you don't have a date the ebst bet is to go for isolation of some kind or another. You guys are goign for social isolation, i'm going for geographical isolation (and nice scenery too!).

The sad thing is that i'm going away with 4 other guys, one of them being my dad.

My mum and dad got married on valentines day so my mum is not happy with my dad. Not only does she not get to see him on valentines day, but also on their anniversary!

But they make great dunking biscuits! ave never encountered problem of a whole pack melted - they are always gone before there is any chance of that! :hihi:

Well this is the first time i have managed to keep a gf for valantines and tbh its not what i thought it was... yesterday she took me shopping and made me write a list of the pressies she wants. (chocs, 2 teddy bears, flowers, clinton card.. the list goes on) this day seems to be turning into a girls only 2nd xmas :?

No Craig, that's no how it supposed to be! In my fairly limted experience of being in a couple for Valentines day, something thoughtful is far, far nicer! I can't stand teddies and soppy cards. I had a botfriend once who was really sweet, he knew I was broke but wanted my hair cut at a new posh salon, so as a surprise he organised for me to have the afternoon off work and booked me in for an appointment. I made him his favourite dinner in the evening, and it was lovely. No flowers and chocs, just really nice.
I hate all the commersialised stuff, but make sure whatever you buy/do goes both ways!!

Awwww! How sweet.

I did a similar(ish) thing for my ex, arranged with her boss to have the day off then took her clothes shopping for the afternoon.

It's not always about spending money though, a sweet romantic gesture can be just as effective (more so in my opinion).

Valentines day makes me sad, and a little sick at the same time. i just can't understand people who get miffed off when their partner forgets or doesn't get them anything, goodness sake they should be grateful they have each other.
