View Full Version : How good are Bananna hosting? Lickable 02-02-2005, 11:56 I noticed the link to Bananna hosting and i was fair impressed with what they offer. Does anybody have any further information? Good? Bad? steev 02-02-2005, 12:14 Can't comment on the service, but the prices look OK. Can't really fault their Lite 100 package, $36 a year for that is pretty sweet... The only bit I'm unsure about is the 1000 visitors a month bit, as it also says 1GB a month traffic, & each visit should be nowhere near 1MB of traffic... Cue Bananaman?!? JoeP 02-02-2005, 12:27 A thousand visitors a month is a very strange metric - nevr come across that one! Because you then get in to whether a visitor is a page impression, a file hit, or all sorts of stuff. I'd be tempted to look for someone offering services that are limited purely in terms of bandwidth. Joe Lickable 02-02-2005, 12:51 I randomly tested 10 of the listed client sites and none of them existed?? Very strange. punk 02-02-2005, 12:53 1000 visitors Part of the problem with saying you can only have 1000 visitors a month is that when your putting a site together you can quite easily create that many hits yourself Even if they mean "Multiple hits from 1000 IP Addresses" it seems a bit strange (also consider that if your on a dynamic ip you could yourself again use up multiples of that 1000 allowance). Maybe they've just put this rule in so that people dont run low bandwidth/high request web pages (eg: php BitTorrent tracker) which can hammer DNS servers. Its the first time I've heard of such a limit though. I agree with Joe, go with somebody who charges purely for bandwidth. Chord 02-02-2005, 13:04 Mmmmmmm - I have just had a very good read of banana's site and was going to go with them but you guys are making me think different now with this posting :-(. As I have never set up a website before and being a total novice I want to ensure I make the right decision in the first place. Janey x steev 02-02-2005, 14:28 Seeing as though everyone else has suggested someone http://www.serversure.net Basic package 100MB space 1/2 GB monthly bandwidth Email forwarding (to another address) £20 a year Optional extras Stats (webalizer) MySQL package of 10 email addresses (with webmail & control panel) £10 a year each & they're based in Chapeltown, they have their own servers & datacentre (not reselling other peoples services) & if you phone up for help you don't get put through to a call-centre... Bananaman 02-02-2005, 18:21 Sorry guys, hadn't noticed this thread untill now. That 1000 visits a month is not a restriction but a mistake, I wanted another way to illustrate 1gb traffic/month, and typed it wrong, I was going for 1hit =~ 1 b or kb (no way of knowing really), just for approximation. After all most of out customers are new at all this, and i wanted to give them a sense of how much traffic it could support. The Techies go for the bigger plans anyway. But you are right, the figure is wrong and confusing as it is on the site and has been removed. Thanks for pointing it out. That Lite 100 is our most popular plan this year. All these sites taken straight from the Clients list are on that Plan and several are using the SiteStudio web builder to create their sites: obxpc.net apolloclinickannur.com spoonjob.co.uk hand.cx douglascandland.com squeakykleanauto.com mlkscc.org alphasdiscoveryclub.com knitaholics.co.uk All the recent sites on the client page list are active, further down the page some might not be working. I don't have time to remove the dead ones, our customers add and remove domains all the time. The 1000 users was a typo and was supposed to say 1bn. They said it was a way of expressing the limitations to the more novice user. I have also been able to find a few sites that they host and have found the site speeds rather impressive. I think they are as good as they sound and am now going to jump in the deep end  Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! --Splash-- Bananaman 04-02-2005, 13:16 Chord: If you are reading this please send me emails instead of private messages, i am having trouble replying to those. Just to reply quickly, If you take the Lite 100 plan you can still add support for another domain to be hosted for $1/m, since you are on a yearly plan that's another $12. So in total its $48/year for 2 websites and 100mb and 1Gb traffic. But since you will have a shopping site with photos and a database, i would now suggest you go with the the larger plan. It's cheaper in the long run. But you can also always upgrade. Good luck with your decision! /Johnny steev 07-02-2005, 13:30 Originally posted by fnkysknky Who and where???? :) :P http://www.sheffieldforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27914 Sorry, didn't realise it was in a different thread.
