hello
one for the bikers.
i have snapped the bolt in my bottom bracket and therefore need a new one (on a MTB). i used to have a BB tool but have lost it due to the fact that once its in you never need it again.
now i need to get a new BB in but am unwilling to pay ten quid plus for a new tool that i will only use once.
anyone got any recommendations where i can ask the shop just to take my old one out and put my new one in?? any ideas on how much the theiving so and so's will charge?? i can do it myself but just do not have the tool.!!!

If you can do it yourself I'd buy the tool and do so instead of taking it to a shop. Not sure why you think you'd only use the tool once? Surely it's obvious that the bottom bracket is a replaceable part and will wear out and need replacing hence you keep the tool. I've gone through umpteen bottom brackets on my mountain bikes due to wear and tear (Peak mud eats the bearings). What bolt on the bottom bracket have you snapped by the way?
If you do want a decent bike repair shop, Langsett Cycles, Butterworths or CCC cycles will sort you out. No more than £10-£20 labour + whatever the new bottom bracket will cost. Avoid Halfords.

hi try james cycles bramall lane very good shop that have done some very good repairs for me and dont charge too much
Go to Butty's on catch bar lane....good service small shop...result is they take more care with your pride and joy...As they would like to see you as a future customer...not just a one off sale...

cheers everyone,
the reason i will only use the tool once is that my last BB lasted about 8 years?? this was all downhill and jumping so i dont think i will get round to using one again without loosing the little bugger.
can def do the change myself, i just need someone to loosen the old and make tight the new!!
cheers for the help anyway

8 years? By eck...you must be a hellishly smooth rider...I get through one a year..costs me a ruddy fortune. Though I do ride like a bulldozer I must admit. :)
