I saw a realy cool transparent case on London Road yesterday and I'm thinking of buying it to pimp my PC.

Has anyone done this before and how hard is it ?

I'm ok with changing hardware, disks, cd's, cards etc, do you need much more technical knowledge than that ?

you mean your going to buy the case and swap the parts? or that you want to build a new case? =\

swapping parts is easy, just make sure you mount your motherboard properly!

I've done a fair bit of case modding, dremels are a mans best friend! :D

Yes, it's a complete case, I just need to gut my PC and put all the bits into the new case.

How would you approch the job ?

Motherboard first I assume then PSU, then other bits ?

You want to do it in approximately this order:

Motherboard/CPU/etc
Drives
Interface cards
PSU
Cabling

The reason I always leave the PSU until near the end is that is many cases the little wires all over the place can cause issues when fitting drives and the like. Putting all the cabling in last (including power cables) allows easiest access to the various mounting posts and screws that are required.

If the PSU is already installed, just leave it in and tie the cables out of the way until you need them.

Dont' transfer it all, tidy it up and close the case then switch it on, something is bound to go wrong.

Always test it with the case door off first :)

make sure that they type of case (IE atx, btx, mini-atx, at) is the same as the old one, otherwise you might have difficulty fitting the motherboard and/or powersupply as they are specific to the case type.

if you get one of those it'd be a good idea to get rounded IDE cables and a power supply with braided cables... otherwise your case looks really cluttered and ugly and nasty...

same with if you get a case with a side window... personally I'm fond of nice big cases to fill with hardware... looks has nothing to do with me, I'm all about power and storage space ;)

i JUST did mine last week...same kinda thing.

I bought a funky case that had more lights and lots of blue bits that come on (haha)

i also bought some great light up fans and put them in. looks s****y.

just lay old computer and new case down side by side and switch it all over.

sometimes the back panels where the keyboard, mouse etc go dont match up....i just knocked mine out.

ermmm....give it a go...helps if you have the manual for your motherboard so you know which bits to put your led's and fans into.

and yes get a big momma!! nothing worse than trying to upgrade and you cant even get your hand in the damn thing or theres no slots left.
