My dads dog had to be put to sleep at the weekend ,she was a 10 yr old westie called millie.
My dad fetched millie home the same day my daughter was born so shes always been extra special to alll of us, but im so worried about my dad . He has multiple sclerosis so hasnt worked for the past 14yrs ( which he hates) but millie has been such a big part of his life that little dog went absolutly everywhere with him so much so that everyone notices when shes not there.
Hes taken it as bad as we all knew he would but im so worried its going to make him ill , none of us can stop crying and i know its still early days but has anyone got any ideas to ease the pain.

Just to make things more painful we had booked a family holiday to scotland ( miilies birthplace) for the new year to take both ruby ( our spotty dog) and mills i just think its going to be to painful for us all. something else we are all finding painful is that we didnt get to say goodbye to her i know im rambling a bit but it really feels like a close member of our family has passed :(

Hi I recently lost my oldest rescue Gem who was 15years and the tears seem to go on forever dont they. All I can say to you is that is does get easier, your family will never forget Millie and she will allways have a special place in your heart, every now and then something will remind you of a good time you had and the tears will flow again but not as bad as before.

Try to remember that Millie had a wonderful life and may not have done if it wasnt for your father, we all have to part with our pets when the time comes, but we cannot see them in pain or suffering if we love them.

They are a member of the family and the home just does not seem the same right now, but it will get easier I promise.

(((((hugs)))) to your family

Gem's pic is in my avatar, the one in the middle.

So sorry for you and especially your dad,
unfortunately there is no magic cure for your grief, apart from time
it will get better and you will one day realise you can think about her without crying

but you have to give your selves time to grieve for her, its perfectly all right to cry
Try to think of how happy she was with your dad and the lovely things you've all done together.
Remember what a lovely life she had with you. and the happiness she brought.

Hugs to all of you.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad losing Milly, but as others say it's natural and right for you to feel her loss right now. She was a very lucky dog to have had so much love and dedication in her life.

I hope that one day soon your family can remember her with love but without pain.

Thinking of you at this horrible time. The thought of losing my Albert brings me to tears so i cannot imagine how you feel. Like others have said unfortunately they go before us if they only they could go on forever. It sounds like you have some wonderful memories to hold onto. Your Dad will smile again it just takes time. you do right though keep hugging and looking after each other x
