Gene Kelly lives!! well not quite, but his character for singing in the rain has been digitally revamped to see him now doing lots of funky dance moves - backed up by a modern dance version of the original music!

Anyone seen the advert yet, for VW Golf GTi? It basically states that its the same car-modelled on the mark1 but a modern approach.

If it is available to view or download on the web, please can someone put on a link.

Thanks

Has anyone seen the new Volkswagen Golf Advert on TV?
I think it's amazing!

It's the best advert since Steve Mcqueen drove the Ford Puma around the streets of San Francisco!

It's one of those adverts I wish I'd have come up with - love it! :)

Nicely done ad...but there are some moments in there where the chap doing the dancing looks like the superimposed face is about to fly off...those moments put me in mind of the demonically possesed!

Hehe... that 'chap' just happens to be Gene Kelly in what is one of the most famous movie scenes ever from Singing In The Rain! (http://www.filmsite.org/sing.html)

Very clever ad'. Here is the new Ad!!! (http://image.guardian.co.uk/sys-video/Media/video/2005/01/27/golfgti.mov)

I knew it was "Singing in the Rain" but as I have an aversion to musicals, I was unsure as to whether the "chap" was Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby or Fred Astaire. So I kept shtum so as not to look like an uncultured fool...thanks for making that gaffe so evident!

Every now and then you get an advert that is more fun than the program it interupts. This is one such advert, I think it's brill and although I've got no intention of buying the product I'll still watch it and think 'how clever'..

I really wasn't expecting it to be advertising the Golf - in fact I didn't really have a clue where it was leading but it's an ace ad!

I remember when most car adverts were just the car driving round some nice scenery, but now it seems that the car adverts are the best adverts. They always get my attention. Favorites are the one in question and the citron (i think) advert where the car turns to a robot and starts dancing.

Strange as it may sound, that's the whole ethos of modern advertising...the aim is that you don't actually relaise they're selling you a product at all until the final seconds of the ad...look at the Pepsi ads where the popstar performs in front of a crowd and the only mention of the product is the logo at the very end...the ultimate ad is one where the viewer knows the product despite the fact that it is never mentioned in the ad at all.

While we're on about car adverts and VW's, has anyone seen this one and heard the controversy surrounding it:

You'll need Quicktime to view the commercial.

The BMW ads are a little wierd.

Just seen one comparing the rear wheel drive advantages.......as compared to a little girl on a tricycle!!!!!? :loopy:

Definitely want to buy one now:suspect:

Looks like some kind of Chris Morris-style pastiche of everything that's wrong with advertising, music and culture generally these days.

I went for the audition to do the dance moves but dident get it in the end because you had to be certain height and have the same body shape as the other 2 dancers.

Good add though but there would have been better dance moves if they picked me.

They used 3 dancers in the end for doing the different styles of dance.

The music is by a band/outfit called "Mint Royale" and it will shortly be released as a single

Nothing will top the dancing Citroen transformer IMO, the only good car advert ever made.

I don't know though.

BMW telling us that their cars are....

a: Better propelled than a toddler's tricycle.
b: More stable than a plateful jelly.
c: Faster than a tortoise.

gets my vote!!

I like the honda advert for diesel engines.

The tune is really catchy and the cartoon bright and cheerful.
