Don't give up your day job just yet. coopster1974 01-02-2005, 21:21 How much wire is sticking out of the jack? If there is enough to twist onto the bit on the lead then try that - if the break is inside the jack, well that means one thing - new headphones!! saxon51 01-02-2005, 21:27 Originally posted by JonJParr Yeah.............................................. .... ever considered a career in comedy? I've just spoken to a friend of mine who's an electrical engineer. He says that I can simply put a new jack on the end of the wire. Why would you think I would have to buy a new pair of headphones? spiffymonkey 01-02-2005, 22:07 Originally posted by JonJParr He says that I can simply put a new jack on the end of the wire. Yep, 99p from Maplin and you're sorted. vidster 01-02-2005, 22:11 Originally posted by JonJParr I've just spoken to a friend of mine who's an electrical engineer. If you have an expensive pair of headphones then yes, it may be worth replacing the jack but i doubt you'd get the same sound quality. If they were relatively cheap, i'd just replace them. *Vidster retreats to avoid the oncoming onslaught from Jon* :hihi: JonJParr 01-02-2005, 22:12 Originally posted by spiffymonkey Yep, 99p from Maplin and you're sorted. Fantastic - thanks guys. I'll go and get one tomorrow- fitting it.... now that's another kettle of fish. Think I might just ask my friend to do it and repay him with wine! Why will the sound quality be worse? vidster 01-02-2005, 22:18 Originally posted by JonJParr They weren't cheap they're Bose - that's why I don't want to buy another pair! Why will the sound quality be worse? Any half decent headphones will have better than average cabling inside and a decent jack plug. A 99p replacement from Maplins will not be of the same quality ;). It wouldn't surprise me if your old one is at least Gold plated. I can't see you getting one of those for 99p. Maybe i am wrong!.....It was just an opinion :heyhey: JonJParr 01-02-2005, 22:19 Originally posted by vidster Any half decent headphones will have better than average cabling inside and a decent jack plug. Do you recommend I buy a slightly more expensive jack? vidster 01-02-2005, 22:22 Originally posted by JonJParr I sliced up the old one to see what it was like inside... no gold. The staff at Maplins will be able to advise you on which one ;) JonJParr 01-02-2005, 22:23 Originally posted by vidster If they are decent headphones and you use them a lot then buy the best jack you can afford.
