Hi,

Being relatively new to sheffield as Im studying at Sheffield University. I decided to explore it.

Went to the much acclaimed tourist attraction - Meadowhall.

Anyways, went throught the interchange and decided to go into the mobile phone shop (Interchange Communication). When I entered the shop, it was empty, I was browsing when I was approached by the shop assistant. He asked if he could help and I kindly declined as I was jusy looking.

He started hanging around me, getting a little close for comfort, asking me my name and telling me his (to be honest I can't quite remember it as i really wanted to leave began wit a "T" i think so dnt quote me on it), at this point I felt best to leave, as I was leaving he asked me for my number so we could get to know eachother.

This guy looked really seedy!! I'm not saying that cos of his behaviour, I know there is more than one staff so his description:

Skinny bloke, on the day was wearing black top and blue jeans, has one of those thin kind of beards, and a kind of a bandana/hat type of things.

The reason why Im posting is that I was generally telling one of my friends and she said something similar happened to her too but not at the same shop, and not by the same person - but at UGC cinema.

Has anyone else out there experienced this, first of all at this shop, and then anywhere else?

Sadly you get these sort of people everywhere. I'd just walk out / be publically rude to them.

You should have called him a perv out loud in front of everyone just to see what he did next.

Probably ****** himself which would be cool!

Was he really seedy or just being helpfull and nice?

Well I guess theres nothing wrong with asking a guy/girl for their number if you find them attractive! but in work time maybe not.

there's friendly & there's too friendly - people don't like other people, esp strangers, invading their personal space. I think Taxi drivers are the worst - there's been 2 times now when a taxi driver has asked me for my number & started asking personal questions, i try to ignore them & don't book with the same firm.

Yeah I know what you mean. However if someone asks you for a number or what ever personal question they ask you just tell them im not interested leave me aloneeeeeeeeeeee!

I mean im a dancer and when I'm out dancing/performing girls come up to me and start asking personal question and asking for number, but if im not intrested I just say that rather then just stay quite and walk off. It's not just in clubs and bars where one could accept this kind of thing to happen. It just happens to me everwhere i go I CAN'T TAKE IT NO MOREEEEEEEEE!!!

I agree with you about the taxi drivers they are seedy.

No, honestly I kno when someone is being a little too nice, and when a downright perv.

Yeah cool, I guess you wont be shopping there again.

I also agree with you about the ugc allot of the workers keep looking at you when you in there.

Maybe you should report that guy to meadowhall customer servicess they usually have a desk set up somewhere in the mall.

Just out of interest if he'd been good looking and you fancied him would you have felt differently about him and welcomed his attention?

It's called Hallam University, so he could have meant either.

Can any lady here answer my earlier question about whether or not the looks and or general appeal of the man in question effects your view of his advances.

Is it the fact that an unknown man is making advances towards you that bothers you or is it that the particular man in question doesn't appeal?

This is a genuine question and I would welcome some responce.

There's one taxi driver I've had the misfortune to be pcked up by on two occasions, who always asks me 'how I want to pay the fare'. Since I didn't notice a switch machine, I don't think his intentions were honourable!

Uurrgh :gag:

To be honest this doesn't seem like harassment at all, it seems like some bloke trying to chat a girl up and not getting anywhere. Men are usually expected to make the first move, so what's the big problem so long as they take no for an answer? I think slimsids on to something - basically you didn't fancy him. Had it been otherwise, you'd have been all smiles and fluttering eyelashes.

i agree w/ t020 here. OK he may have made you feel awkward, but you can't blame a guy for trying!
