A petition has been submitted to the government's e-petition website seeking support for the abolition of leaseholds.

If you are a leaseholder and have suffer abuse from Freehold Ground Rent Companies or from Managing Agents such as "Estates and Management" or "Simarc Property Managment" - then support this petition.

All leasehold contracts have a freehold reversion clause which returns the property to the landlord and this is an UNFAIR contract by todays standards.

Very good and ask all your neighbours , friends , work mates, former school mates and relatives etc to sign the petition.

The population of Sheffield is estimated at 520,700 ( in Mid 2005) and if one percent could sign this e-petition, this would mean an extra 5207 supporters. It costs nothing to sign and get the law changed.

Never going to happen.

Can you imagine the billions that would have to be spent on changing laws, administration, solicitors fees etc to fix something that has already beed addressed by the recent Leasehold Reform Act

BEFORE NEW LABOUR GOVT CAME TO POWER, NICK RAYNSFORD PROMISED THEIR NEW LABOUR GOVT WOULD END THE FEUDAL SYSTEM AND BRING IN COMMONHOLD TO REPLACE LEASEHOLD FOR ALL NEW PROPERTIES. BUT THIS DID NOT HAPPEN.

COMMONHOLD LEGISLATION TOOK 5 YEARS TO PREPARE ALTHOUGH IT WAS MOSTLY COPIED FROM THE FIRST STRATA SYSTEM ( NOT LATEST VERSION )USED IN AUSTRALIA. IT SHOWS JUST HOW BADLY THIS PIECE OF LEGISLATION WAS MISMANAGED AND MADE DEFECTIVE.

The recent introduced "Commonhold " system has been rejected by MAJORITY OF builders , preferring to continue using "leasehold" which MEANS NO CHANGE.

Also the Govenment's requirement for 100 % agreement by Leaseholders and the landlord's consent has made transfer of existing blocks from "leasehold" to "Commonhold" QUITE impossible. The government housing minister ( Keith Hill) crippled its own legislation and betrayed its own election manifesto.

So we, THE PUBLIC, need to pursue a change in the law to make commonhold compulsory regardless of the expense, if it benefits the public . At present the leasehold system benefits ONLY the rich land companies and the dishonest managing agents like E & M and Simarc., AND THE GROUND RENT LANDLORDS.

If you are leaseholder or consumer , then you should sign the petition .

But if you are a freeholder, then I EXPECT you would object to it.
