Just found that you can do this. Just tried it on my landline and it works. I have 1571 answer message thing activated, does it work on landlines that dont and across all types of landlines (i.e. telewest e.t.c)

Also does it cost the owner of the landline to receive?

What does it do? How does it work?

I thought the landline had to have a text phone to do that, am I wrong?

Has worked for a while. Text a message to a normal landline number and a BT computer "reads" it and rings the number and a nice female speech synthesizer reads the message out.
Obviously, it helps her out if the message is speelt currectlly or she has problems. Great fun with rude phrases.
My favourite for her to read to my mates is "You smell of poo and wee"

I thought it did too Strix but someone sent me a text message to my home phone a few days ago (I wasn't aware it was set up for this) & I got it on the answering machine.

It sounds VERY odd hearing a chatty text spoken in a female sort of monotone voice

I suppose you need to remember to sign it then? It bugs me that messages left on a landline only have 'listen again' 'save' and 'delete' as options - no 'call this person', like mobiles do.

I thought there was an option for "call this person" on 1571 introduced a while back? I could be remembering incorrectly though - rarely use it myself.

I keep getting calls for 'Esther' from 'Audrey' on mine, but cannot call back to tell her she has the wrong number. When I dial 1471 I get my sister or mum, so she never seems to be the last caller.

If you know these people, please tell them!

I had soooo much fun with this at Christmas!

The phone was ringing all the time and saying dirty things while on loudspeaker!

It was probably only funny because I had consumed my own weight in various alcoholic drinks though!

My wife had the pleasure of trialling this for BT before it went public. Without telling me............

The first time she tried it on me I nearly pooped my pants. I thought it was a female Steven Hawking telling me how much she loved me!!!
