View Full Version : 100th anniversary of the Titanic sinking.
On 15 April 2012, the 100th anniversary of the sinking of Titanic is planned to be commemorated around the world. By that date the Titanic Quarter in Belfast is planned to have been completed. The area will be regenerated and a signature memorial project unveiled to celebrate Titanic and her links with Belfast, the city that built the ship.

As i'm really into the Titanic story, I hope to go to Belfast and be witness to this event, it sounds quite exicing although with the last remaining survivor, Millvina Dean ages 95, I doubt she'll make it, anyone else planning on attending to this event, what do you think about the idea?

steveb2007 26-11-2007, 13:02 The world's unluckiest man got shipwrecked, and was then picked up by the Titanic.:)
BasilRathbon 26-11-2007, 13:27 I wondered what that story on the news about the M/S Explorer hitting an iceberg in Antarctica the other day was. Rather bad taste to celebrate the 100th anniversary by recreating the sinking, don;t you think?
NEKRO138 26-11-2007, 14:09 To celebrate, I will be recreating the ill fated voyage in my bath.

How can you compare the two? The later one was in the Southern Hemisphere and has been attributed to a severe lack of steering by the penguins on board the iceberg?
What type of anniversary is going to take place? I don't understand why one would celebrate such a tragedy.

I think it's more of a commemorative event, like with the World Wars.
last song to be played on the titanic [Lionel Richie, dancing on the ceiling]
squeakyclean 03-12-2007, 20:05 I might look in to that myself, as I really wanted to go on this http://www.titanicvoyages.co.uk/index.html but can't afford it. Shame as it looks really interesting, well to Titanic buffs like me anyway.

*Shudders* ugh that's just ghoulish, that is!
(Although the "naughty" in me, thought, on reading that, do they re-enact the sinking, too, for crying out loud, for the sake of authenticity? !?!?!)
Prices range from £2800-£4300, hmm, understandable & worth it no doubt.
