No, not the horribly cheesy 80's soft-rock extravaganza by that band whos name I can't remember.

I mean the Discovery Channel documentary series where they show you the history of famous cities. I've only seen one episode but I know there are at least two others. I can buy the DVDs from the Discovery Channel web site but they are region 1 so they won't play on the DVD player (or will they ?)

Does anyone know where I could buy this series in this country ?

Thanks.

Nick.

I checked on the web site and they are region 1 :(

Nick2, another thing you need to bear in mind is that DVDs from the USA would probably be NTSC format (as opposed to the PAL format used in Europe) so in order to play them you will need an NTSC-compatible DVD player and display. However, if your PC has a DVD drive it may be able to play NTSC format DVDs (mine does and it is about four years old). A lot of manufacturers produce DVD players, TVs or even TVs with built-in DVD players which can play/display both PAL and NTSC DVDs.

As for the region code problem multi-region DVD players are quite commonplace in the UK and some are very cheap (I've seen one for £30). You may be able to play a Region 1 DVD on your PC but before you try it I suggest you look through the instruction manual/help section of the DVD player software first. The DVD software that came with my PC is set to region 2 but if you put a disc with a different region code in it will supposedly detect that and change the region but it will only allow five changes, after which it is locked on the last region used. There may be ways around this such as installing another piece of DVD software but I've not tested them as I don't have any region 1 DVDs and other software may not have these restrictions anyway.

If you really want to buy and watch the DVD it should be perfectly possible, although you may decide that it isn't worth the expenditure needed to watch it. However, if you do decide to buy the DVD post on this thread again before you do because you also need to bear the issue of import duties in mind (and if the item I've found is the one you want - is it about $45? - you may need to pay import duties).
