Spotted a load of wooden sheds in Barkers Pool but wasn't clase enough to see what they were.
Anyone know whats there and for how long. Been on the Sheffireld Martkets site and no mention there.

Although I haven't seen it, I've been told that it's a German Market, selling Spanish paella and Dutch cheese!

It's pretty good, you can buy german lager and sit on picnic tables with it.

Am I right in thinking there's going to be a bar?!!

lazyherbert - I had a giggle at your post (I think we share the same irony) but it IS well over 60 years ago since the last war and that's two generations. Time to move on eh?

If this is anything like the one that's usually outside the city hall in Manchester, then this is good fun. It's not just German stalls, there are French, Dutch and English specialist stalls amongst others.

It's great to follow up a stressful afternoon shopping by a bratwurst, a glass of fine bavarian white beer, and a gluhwein chaser!

The Manchester one is heaving though, especially on Saturdays.

Our family have made it a tradition to do a Manchester shopping trip on the last Saturday before Christmas every year. We shop until 3pm, then head to the German market and get slowly drunker whilst soaking up the atmosphere and sampling the delights.

well for goodness sake in a city in which every third birth is to a person of non native stock, are we really worried about a few German market stalls?

the mock German bar is wonderful. i think it's absolutely sweet and charming and unexpected. I'm not quite sure why a german market is serving paella but still.

Other than that I'm sorry I'm just sick of this Sun manufactured enmity with the Germans. It's an irony then if there's a nissan car in the vicinity of the cenotaph?

Anyway, I for one will be visiting the german market and sampling some bratwurst and german(?) paella :)

yeah well truly all through the night barker's pool is a real hive of activity. We can hardly worry about a sausage stall disrespecting the cenotaph when students are jumping in the fountains and comatose girls lying on the paving nearby are being resusitated for drunkenness.

Who said anything about disrespecting the cenotaph. If you want to make a comment please make it about what people have written & not what supports your silly argument.Please.

I think we've got the idea liberty boy. You didn't agree with lazyherbert's gently ironic comment. You can let it go now.

well yes okay.

actually i wonder if those huts will stand being there until Christmas given that i don't think there are security guards. I should imagine excellent nooks that they offer every foot length of them will be peed on at some point in the next three weeks

I spent part of the summer in Serbia as part of a youth exchange (my sister does youth working in Norfolk and got me to tag along). I met French, German, Bosnian and Serbian people and - whilst they were all nice people, a fascinating to talk to - the Germans were practically like the English but with different accents! Same sense humour (yep), same taste in music (rock/indie - no david hasselhoff!) and they were great beer drinkers! :D

yes without a doubt they're not the caricatures they're painted as in the red top newspapers. likewise the french. I don't believe that as a nation we should consider any nationality some sort of traditional enemy. You'll find good sincere people, liberals and friends etc along with arseholes and the not so friendly in any national group you encounter.Life is about finding people of good motivation whereever you can.
