I'm have quite a lot of work done to my place as part of the "Decent Homes" initiative. One of the workmen suggested that I ought to get some sort of grant towards decoration costs (which I think was the norm a few years ago).

Has anybody who's had this work done already been able to claim something for any necessary repairs to their interior decoration?

Hadn't really thought about it until the guy mentioned it.

Any room done by Decent Homes should be left skimmed and painted. If they haven't touched the walls they won't do it. Im not aware of any decoration grants.

Mind you having a DH completion would be a start.

Ta Hills Forum. I've not heard anything from Henry Boot (the lot doing my area) about grants but I thought it worth asking about.

This bit (from the What Happens When All The Work Is Finished? page) cheered me up.

"You will also be shown how to use all the items like the shower and central heating and be given instructions and aftercare information to refer to."

Can I fathom how to use the new boiler I've got. Nope. :(

And I'm the type who can usually set his video recorder properly.

If they're doing an entire room, like the bathroom, the painting will get done. However, I had a huge amount of damage and repair done to the walls where my old boiler and pipes were ripped out, and the new radiators didn't cover the unpainted areas where the old ones had been. Then another set of holes to poke all the new pipes and timers etc. They'll fill the holes but they won't paint the room. That's where the decorating grant comes in. Mine was £20 for every wall affected. If you ring the investment team department of Sheffield Homes they'll send someone round to count the affected walls and tot up what you're due. :)

Sorry if I'm duplicating what it says in the link. I'm feeling lazy.

Worth knowing about, ta.

Once it's all over and done with (that in itself will make me happy ) I'll give them a ring.

In return for many years of rent. That's how renting works, you know? The landlord's responsible for the upkeep etc? Also in return for decades of neglect and lack of maintenance that the landlord didn't get around to doing. Don't start that canard again because it's crap and has been done to death.

As far as I remember, the rent system for LA housing is points based. So, as I'm getting a shower installed (that I didn't have before) that will be 1, 2 or however many points on my rent. These points get totaled up and my rent will be calculated from these points.

As well as the kitchen an bathroom i had central heating done as well which made a mess of every room and i got £90, that was for three bedrooms a living room and hallway. The grant didn't include kitchen an bathroom as that was redecorated. Hope this helps
